Hey guys,

I'm been into songwriting for a little over a year now and I still haven't got a melody to show for it... I can write really nice accompaniments, but I can't seem to lay out a vocal line.

My biggest issue is simply finding a place to start... I mean, do I write lyrics, then try to fit them? Do I improvise with nonsense words and fill it in later?

Another big issue is placing pauses in the melody. When I try to make something up, I tend to make one big ol' continuous stream of notes and it sound weird.

Any advice for me?

find some way to repeat your progression, or whatever it is you want to add a melody over....
and dance while you imagine something fitting
