It's past time to change the stock tubes in my HT5 (head)

It is stocked with an ECC83 and a 12BH7

What I'm looking for is something that gets a little more gain,

I was thinking about a 6l6 for power, and open to suggestions on a pre amp.

Also, I have the grill off now and am curious, where do I start in swapping these off?

You can't fit a 6L6 into a HT-5. The socket's the wrong size for starters, plus everything else.
ECC83 is as high of a gain preamp tube as you can get. Try a JJ ECC83S or a gen 9 Shuguang 12AX7C.
As for the power tube your best bet is to find a good NOS tube from Europe/UK or the US.

You have the matching 1x10s? What's in them, the G10N-40?

Just curious.

why would adding a 6L6 get you more gain?

this has serious promise.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

More highs.

More lows.

Simply put, more tone.

TS - you want an egnater tweaker. then you can swap power like you want to.

the Blackstar isn't made for that. you can use only 12BH7 power tube. that's it.

Don't we all just want to tweak a little now and then?

bear in mind i think the 12bh7 has to be biased

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.
