I tune down one whole step which means I get a bit of a darker sound - are there any overdrive pedals that are brighter sounding out there to add a bit of variation to my sound?

Just change your EQing. Or buy an EQ pedal.

Sounds like a job for an old fashioned, unmodded tubescreamer to me.

+1 for the tubescreamer.
My prs has 57/08 pickups which are great pickups, but give them a big dose of gain and they get real muddy at the bottom end. I use a ts9 as a boost and it tightens up nicely

Tubescreamers chop the crap out of the bass unless you mod them.

yesh, like Gregs mentions, a treble booster seems to be right up your alley.

it's so cool to hate Gibson, even the federal Department of Justice hates them.

Thanks everyone, I've been looking at the Way Huge Green Rhino (which is a tubescreamer clone) but one review I've read is that it's dark sounding?

Only if you max out the 100Hz knob. Turn it back and it's fine--not dark at all. Keep it neutral and it's fine, even.
