I'm getting a Marshall 1960 av cab (4x12 with v30 celsestions) what do you guys think about this cab and could i play it through my 15 watt head until i get a jcm 800 2203? or will my head not have enough grunt?
cheers

Once you get a 2203 you are going to want a 1960A, not a 1960AV. Just buy a normal 1960A.
Your little amp should work fine into either. I often run a 5W Champ into a 1960 and it works fine.

V30's get a bit "honky" on a Marshall. Marshalls have buttloads of mids and high mids, you don't want V30's. They sound best with a greenback like tone which is what a normal 1960 will give you. Well, unless you put something more exotic in there like EV's.

Oh, you are a Kiwi. This is what I want to load into a 4x12 eventually for my JTM45. If you can score an unloaded cab and afford to buy these that's what I'd do.

I have one of the 30W'ers in a 1x12 I run my 18W Marshall clone into and it's awesome. They out greenback a greenback. They are made in Port Melbourne. What's shipping like to NZ from here? It would be worth checking out if you are that way inclined.

You don't want V30s for that amp!

oh yeah thanks, i've never really shipped anything over from aussie so I have no idea what the shipping would cost, i'll defo look into it though. i've also heard getting a 4x12 and loading it with 2 greenbacks and 2 v30's sounds awesome. never played through one like that before myself but i recon that would be quite a good combination too.

Not on a 2203. V30's are just wrong. Mixing speakers can work great, just keep V30's out of the mix. The classic 2203 tone is through a G12T75 loaded 1960.

Yeah, your amp doesn't want V30s. You don't even really have a choice in the matter. It's the amp, not the speaker; my dual rectifier is going to LOVE V30s.
