I couldn't bring myself to quit my game now, but if I have one regret... it's not buying Gylfi Siggurdson right at the start, 5 time player of the year on fm12

Gylfi is probably the best central midfielder on the game.

What's it like on Handheld? The iPhone app is ****ing dreadful.

I don't know what it's like on the PC because I've never played it on a computer so I can't really compare it to that.
But it's quite pish, can only bid up to £60m, the match simulation (where it shows the goals, red cards and shots in a game) are dreadful. Players have headed it in from the halfway line so many times it's ridiculous. You're very limited at what you can do at a club, adjust the budgets, pick your squad and buy players. No staff to hire and the stadium can't be improved or anything.
The valuation of players is just stupid too, if some big players perform shit for a couple of seasons their price tag will stay the same...ish. But players constantly scoring tonnes and being class never get to the same price valuation as others (Kaka can be an example, always plays pish yet well expensive). Work permits make no sense, young Brazilian kids can be brought in but some players with tonnes of caps for their country from Africa can't. And some players aren't eligible for a work permit desptite playing in the same league.
And you can't manage a team from certain countries, like Mexico, USA, Norway and Turkey. And some International countries can't be managed. There are tonnes of crap things about it, but it's something to do

^ watch out TS, that was a double post

The best formation in the world is a flat 4-3-3:

1 Sweeper Keeper
2 Full Backs (Defend (important))
2 Centre Backs (Standard)
3 Centre Mids (1 Defend, 2 Support)
3 Strikers (All Attacking Advanced Forwards)

No fancy roles. Make sure your strikers are fast (aerial ability is optional). Also make sure at least 2 of your midfielders are good defensively, and 2 are good creatively. Make sure counter attacks are ON. I won the league with Sunderland this way, even with mediocre centre backs like Turner and Kilgallon. Backroom staff always tell me it's unsuitable, but they know shit all.

Also, passing should be direct and tempo should be fast.

What season you in?
#60
Love this game. Been taking a bit of a break from it but I'll probably go back on to finish another season. Up to the 2023/2024 season. I'll copy some of your format TS and state my CV.

Teams - Newcastle United (2011-Present)
England (2018-2022)

Career Highlights - 4 Premier League titles
2 Champions Leagues cups
2 Europa League cups
1 Club World Championship
2 European Super Cups
3 F.A. Cups
6 Carling Cups (4 of them back to back 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023)
6 Community Shields (Won every single one since 2018)

With England - Won the Euro 2020, World Cup 2022 and the confederations cup

Tactics - I stick to your standard 4-4-2 most of the time, sometimes putting the midfield in a central diamond, and on occasion, i.e. European games I'll play a 4-5-1 with 3 an AML, AMR, 2 CM's and a DM.

Senior Squad

GK: Thibaut Courtois, Roberto Cafasso

DF: Sandro Moriera, Roberto Mestriner, Jaguare, Steven Caulker, Moha, Geert van Meel, Davide Santon, Zoltan Sebastyen

MF: Nicola Leoni, Jose Carlos Ferrandez, Joseph Sunday, Yengambarum Kinglsey, Theo Walcott, David Alaba, Mattia Gadda, Arjan De Ward, Mohammed Abraham

ST: Stefano Giachetti, Alessio Uberti, Carlos Fierro, Lucas

Usual line-up (4-4-2)

Courtois

Santon Moriera Van Meel Mestriner

Walcott Gadda Leoni Alaba

Fierro Lucas

I say 'usual starting line-up' however I do rotate the players a fair bit given the long fixture schedule. However if I was going for my best team I'd likely play this line-up, give or take one or two (i.e. putting Santon in left-back and Moriera right-back with Moha coming into centre back or dropping Leoni/Gadda for Sunday and Lucas for Giachetti).

Problems

None. When I first started I did not do well at all finishing 7th, 13th, 8th, and 9th in the first four seasons. This was down to my own bad tactics and some mediocre signings. After that my fortunes changed as I managed to bring in some pretty good players and at the same time I invested money in youngers, who after a few seasons, turned into quality players who have been integral to me winning so many trophies. I also have a large backroom staff list and adjusted the training schedules to suit my team.

Interesting to note that only Courtois, Santon, Caulker, Walcott, and Alaba are the only real players in my team at this point I think. I have some players as coaches now though i.e. Cristiano Ronaldo, Yohan Cabaye, David Trezeguet as my assistant, and a few others.

My dortmund team. Won CL once, deutsch cup twice, league 4 times or is it 5?

ter Stegen
Vrsaljko Hummels Subotic Schmelzer
Bender
Sigurdsson Poli
Reus Vossen Götze

Subs: Sidney Sam, Paloschi, Munoz, Gundogan, Bosingwa, Veloso, Grosskreutz

Sold the polish trio sadly. They didn't really perform the way I wanted them to.

Playing Götze as attacking playmaker, Vossen as complete forward and Reus as inner striker/forward or whatever it's called in english. (Got the game in swedish.)

Sigurdsson scored 22 goals and had 21 assists last season in the league in 34 games. As a MC.

I've not long started it. I did plan to focus on youth, but that left me trophyless after 2 seasons so I decided to splash the cash.

I'm still developing youth players and Lewis Baker looks like he's gonna be a great player, as does Tomas Kalas.

Edit: I wasn't trophyless, but I only won the Carling Cup and went out in the semis of the Euro Cup in my second season.

Just started a new game on FM 2011 with Sunderland. Played first three league games, beat Blackpool 4-1, beat West Brom 2-0 then got beat off Liverpool when they got a penalty in the last minute.

Had 0 transfer funds so not really invested in any players

When did you guys sell Lorik Cana? Is he still a Sunderland player in FM11? In FM10, the hardest part of playing as Sunderland is trying to stop Cana and Cattermole getting sent off.

My best signing to date is Moussa Sissoko, he's a brilliant box-to-box midfielder, better than Ramires on the game IMO (I sold Ramires to City straight away for £20m, ka-ching). He only cost me £7.5m after Toulouse got relegated and now he's worth £17m.

My best signing is either Sigurdsson or Reus to my Dortmund or Verratti to my Napoli game. The guy is just lovely. Paloschi is another lovely poacher. 1,0 goal per game more or less since I first bought him.

I've concentrated heavily on youth, I went 9 trophyless seasons, and now, it's paying dividends, just won my first trophies - FA Cup and Euro League, average squad age of 23

If you're in it for the long haul it's good

BIG ****ING PROBLEM

I've just won the above trophies, top 10 Richest team in world, pushing for the title... They've given me a transfer budget of 632k... What the **** am I meant to spend that on in 2021?! Answers on a postcard please anyone...

I've noticed it gradually, players become less affordable, or maybe that's because when I was mid-table I had £28 million to spend and now I have £600k...

I've kept well within all of my budgets, and saved money on using youth players. **** the boardroom.

Don't know really. I asked my board to bid on Andre Schurrle. A week later they had closed down a deal on him. For 61 million euro...
Impossible to cancel such a deal so I had to exit the game and load it again.

Yeah I'd agree players become less affordable. There's a slow inflation in prices, generally caused by the bigger teams offering ridiculous amounts for players.

Also on the topic of best signings I have had a few quality players. In the current team Gadda, Leoni, Giachetti, Uberti are the star players that I signed at a young age who are now staples in the first team. Some other signings have been quality as well such as:

- Carlos Fierro - Signed for £15.25m from Fiorentina. In his first season (22/23) he scored 34 in 38 in the Prem with 14 assists. His overall total for that season comes to 55 games, 44 goals, 18 assists and 13 man of the matches.

- Thibaut Courtois - Signed for £3.9m from Chelsea in Jan of the 2016/2017 season. He has been one of my greates buys in any FM Game. His Prem stats show why.

16/17 - 15 games, 24 conceeded, 5 clean sheets (His worst season - but here is where he gets good)

17/18 - 38 games, 29 conceeded, 17 clean sheets
18/19 - 35 games, 28 conceeded, 17 clean sheets
19/20 - 38 games, 25 conceeded, 20 clean sheets
20/21 - 38 games, 18 conceedeed, 26 clean sheets
21/22 - 38 games, 14 conceeded, 27 clean sheets
22/23 - 37 games, 27 conceeded, 24 clean sheets

And in the current season out of the two games I've played he has two clean sheets.

Renzo Perugini - Free signing, 64 goals in 116 Prem games including 36 goals in all competitions in his first season 2015/2016.

David Alaba - Signed in 2022/2023 season for £7.25m and he finished with 23 assists.

Jack Wilshere - Signed for £3m in 2014/2015 and despite only 7 assists in his first season he had 19 overall in his second. Not bad for a £3m signing.
#77
Always sign Leigh Griffiths when you're poor... 40/50 goals a season easy

EDIT - Michael Owen on a free 2nd season, always happens

Who are the best players to buy when they get old? Just got Sergio Busquets for £3million - age 33 Summer 2021

Ooo nice to see this got resurrected. I starter with Altrincham the other week and got 3 back to back promotions(which tbh is easy if you find the right free signings). Got offered the Spurs and Man United job so I went with Spurs (less expectations, want to manage abroad after, before managing United.

Pretty strong line up when I got there, just need a strikers who's good in the big games:

Handanovic(my signing 7.5m)
Walker Dede Shawcross Baines
Lennon Modric Sandro Bale
Jadson
Cardozo

Subs: Amos, Kaboul, Ekotto, Barry (loan), Debuchy, VDV, Defoe

I think this squad is fully capable of winning trophies this season so I'm focusing on developing facilities and bringing in 16-18 year olds since I have no good ones

Anyone recommend some decent strikers that cost less than 15m? (Refuse to sign anyone for more, less than 10 if I can help it...)
