The innards aren't nearly as boring as I thought they would be Still very messy, but at least it isn't pcb upon pcb. Cool Stuff. The last one is just to show off the transformers, because I have really been missing big transformers. Got to play a little bit after work today, I just was kinda knocked out big this thing really sounds. I didn't really get to tinker a whole lot yesterday, but after playing a little bit more with it today it is really just a very big amp, almost like a more Brit version of a rectifier type of thing going on, but not all the flub. Again, I am still in the honey moon period, but I just cannot say how much I love this bad boy.

Retubed the Chadwick yesterday. Jj preamp and sovtek 5881 power tubes, just because I can't fit anything else in the amp comfortably lol. Sound is much improved, much clearer than the cheap no name Chinese preamp tubes, still very big sounding. Might try a tungsol in v1 to brighten it up a tad, fairly dark amp, it could use it

Nice gut shot.

And I finaly found out what that weird Krank on GC used was. It is from the 90's when there was no "Krank" company. Thats one that he made out of his little shop. That is all I could get out of Krank.

I did find that he has started another company called Stiff amplification. On that site he offers a amp I am guessing is his Revolution circut, and one that is called the AD90 (which I gathered is basicaly the 1980). Just thought I'd share that info.

That's awesome! Yeah, Krank is not very good about answering emails. I sent them one asing if the chad had an adjustable bias and they told to take it to a tech

Yeah what I got from the emails I have gotten is that they don't want to answer many questions about the older amps (maybe because of the falling out with tony ) but when I asked them about the diffrences in the Chadwick and the 1980 I felt I was given the shortest answers about the chadwick, but 2 paragraphs about the 1980. I think they want everyone to buy new not used.

But in advance, It is pretty badass and it works well with my Rev 4x12. Just played my first show with it last night, and doing it again tonight. Lots of people wanted to know what it was (other bands) and where I got it.

It sounds very similar to clips I have heard of the Splawn QR, but seems to have a bigger bass responce . But I havent actualy played a splawn to know for sure. My other guitarist uses a Mesa Dual and while it doesn't have that much lowend, it has a good deal.
I scored it for $670 shipped
I bought it for playing in my Prog-rockmetal band. Think Punk-Hardrock-Mastadon mix.

I still havent got but a very small Idea of the tones I can get out of it. I have only played it for ~4 1/2 hours but the sweep knob is kind sensitive, so I know there are lots of options.

Very HR Marshal tone. Kind of Splawnish, but with lots of low-end. It has quite abit of gain on tap. So far I havent felt the need to run any OD/boost pedals with it.

There is a diecent video on Kranks site, but it was done in the studio so there is deff production done on it, but live it sounds very close.

yes, but it was the 20 watt version, not the 50. It was diecent, but not in the same class as the 80watt. It sounded more like a DSL with a little bigger bottom, but not by much. Maybe a tad more gain, but not quite as fizzy as a marshall. But I only played with it for about 10-15 min at my local store.

New Found Power was made with Randalls. Dime only used Kranks live, and even then it was only a few months before his death, way after the album came out. From the clips I've heard the Krankenstein sounds alright, nice cleans, awesome dist. Shame there doesn't seem to be hardly any in the UK

All the stuff Brendon Small did on Dethalbum I (Dethklok) with the Rev 1 sounds pretty badass. I beleive he used Krankensteins live though.

Krankensteins seem to go pretty cheap used in the UK, Once I have enough cash lying around..

Oh I didn't know that. Cool there's a krankenstein on my Craigslist that's been floating for two or three months. It's at 600$ right now. Perfect accept for a missing handle on the top. I kinda wanted to pick it up but it would require me to sell my rev jr., and that probably ain't gonna happen any time soon.

Yeah from what I read Dime never even used the Krankenstein. It was finished just days before he was killed. He was using Rev series 1 for that I believe

Judging by the youtube videos with Damageplan live, he's using either a custom Rev or a prototype Krankenstein. The shitty phone mics don't do that head justice it would seem. The actual rig he used the night he was killed is on 'display' at Dean guitars HQ.

The kranks seem alright, not many people seem to be playing them though, maybe the price tag is off putting? Considering what you could get in the same price range. Can't wait to try one, they seem pretty unique.

+1 for truth. I would love a rev. Really the used price isn't bad. I can get a rev for 700 bucks, I mean, it's a vicious amp, not much compares in that range imo. I prefer my chad, but I certainly wouldn't turn down a rev

To Romeo, I'm trying to get together with my friend to record some samples, ill definitely post them here when I get them

I just bought a new Krankenstein Cabinet (4x12, Texas Heats, ported) a few weeks ago and I'm nothing short of impressed with it. Still has that one honky frequency and needs to be broke in more, but it delivers a clear, deep and punishing sound with a JSX. Best clean sound I've ever had from my rig with this cab too. I picked it up after playing on one at our last show. Not sure what I think about the actual amp though... I tried the original once a long time ago and wasn't impressed.

Cool thread.

I don't know much about teh Kranks. I think I would like the Chadwick.

BTW - the Splawn has insane amounts of tight low end. You would be hard pressed to make it flub out. I play in 'C' a lot of times with the Bass on 10 o'clock and it still has tons of bass.
