I took lessons as a kid but never got far with it but I want to get back to learning guitar in hopes to entertain myself in down time. I can't put money into lessons around here as they all cost 50 a lesson and I don't have 200 a month to throw at this endeavor at the moment. I realize that lessons are ideal but I am hoping I can do online lessons and such.

I want to learn to play guitar and understand my actions, not only learn to play songs. That being said...I want to learn songs as well.

Is there a good reputable source you can refer me to that has lessons that go step by step for those starting out, that is online? I don't mind paying for material, just not able to do 200 a month every month.

I believe I am going to get the Marty Schwartz guitarjamz 1 year subscription. Can anyone comment on the quality once you pay?

I wouldn't recommend paying for anything that isn't face-to-face lessons at this stage.
Actually called Mark!

Start trawling youtube, there is a wealth of knowledge if you dig deep....'tis too early to start shelling out good money at this point in time....

I was in your same situation 2 years ago. I had taken lessons when I was younger but nothing ever really clicked for me. I wanted to learn again and decided to tech myself. I found this site and found the "Top 100 tabs." I found a few easy songs that used open chords and did my best (get a capo). Before I knew it, I was playing them and singing them. I knew I wanted to continue getting better so I started trying to learn bar chords. I was frustrated at first but kept pushing through the hand cramps and pain. Before I knew it, I was playing bar chords flawlessly! Once I was doing that, I started introducing songs that were picked. I can now pick any song I want to play and play it (with a little practice).

This site is your #1 resource. You can also use YouTube, it will help you understand some things.

Good luck!

The only free and full of lessons recourse is Youtube. It also covers all lessons from mentioned sites here. But if you know someone who plays the guitar then ask him what you need to learn because there're plenty of things to learn in guitar playing.

I use Marty sometimes. He's good, but I would also recommend justinguitar.com they're the two best teachers on YouTube and Marty has those subscriptions. They're worth it. Also go on Justin's site. With those 2 you should be set for a while. Good luck to you.

Teach yourself. It is the best way to learn. And has others have mentioned, check out the youtube videos. Guitar teachers are obsolete with the advent of youtube.

Nope.
But boys will be boys and girls have those eyes
that'll cut you to ribbons, sometimes
and all you can do is just wait by the moon
and bleed if it's what she says you ought to do
