Bob Dylan

In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach

My existence led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow
Ahh, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now

in context of the song

Roger Waters, Thom Yorke, and Maynard James Keenan are both amazing lyricists.
I love Johnathan Davis's lyrics (hate meh if you want) and I also love Chino Moreno's lyrics. They're so quirky and abstract on Deftone's newest albums. Also Kurt Cobain. I love his lyrics.

A "tubescreamer" is a person paid by a guitarist to stand behind the amp and scream at the tubes. This terrifies the tubes into overdriving and delivers a thick, harmonic-rich tone.

^ a master with words.

I'd say my personal favourite would be Mark Linkous, of Sparklehorse. I mean, hearing a guy who shot himself in the chest sing;

"I will return here one day
And dig up my bones from the clay" and...
"I held my hand in the fire
It burned me down to the wires"

...it's undoubtedly sad, but also brilliant and beautiful to me.

I'm disappointed from humanity that no one mentioned Chuck Schuldiner yet!
his lyrics were so deep, it was like deep poems only in death metal songs!
RIP Chuck

Eminem is a good one "... so if you don't like my shit you can suck my dick"

Greg from the Dillinger Escape Plan writes wonderful slightly abstract but yet concrete aggressive and slinky lyrics

I'm not sure who wrote the lyrics to Queen's A Night At The Opera (Freddie?) but they are awesomely cheesy

Josh Homme in QOTSA and Them Crooked Vultures, vicious poetry

Alex Turner.
Normal people: "She's hot."
Alex Turner: "If you were heat seeking, she'd be hard to ignore."

Also, Hopsin.
"You want Romeo? You're not worthy, you're ****-thirsty, you're nasty and you probably got herpes. Sometimes the secret to find is to stop searching so find a new formula cos your last one's not working."

Tom Waits, Mark Lanegan, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Chris Cornell, Layne Staley (his AIC songs were always the best imo), Seasick Steve, Son House, and Josh Homme.

Edit: Al from Sleep and Om, and whoever writes the lyrics for Truckfighters.

Brian May wrote '39, Sweet Lady, Good Company and The Prophet's Song.

John Deacon wrote You're My Best Friend and Roger Taylor did I'm In Love With My Car.

Honestly I don't really pay attention to lyrics that often, it's the least important part of a song to me and unless the lyrics are just godawful then it's fine.

That said, I can appreciate good writing and I think Alex Turner is a brilliant lyricist

No love for Chino Moreno?

Digital Bath:

You move like I want to / To see like your eyes do / We are downstairs where / No one can see / New life break away / Tonight I feel like more / Tonight I / You make the water warm /
You taste foreign / And I know you can see / The cord break away / Cause tonight I feel like more / Tonight I feel like more / Tonight I feel / Feel like more / You breathed /Then you stopped / I breathed then dried you off / And tonight / I feel like more / Tonight

Korea:

I taste you much better / Off teeth taste / Of white skin on red leather / Check the claws we got / Night time coming in / Downtown pony / Work your pitch / I came to in feathers /
Like leaves and you / Rubbed me together / With claws like we got / Night time coming / In downtown pony / Work your pitch daytime dancer / I'll come inside / Got my teacher / Now carve your niche
