Id say that's accurate. Forsberg and Crosby for me are pretty much in a dead heat in terms of overall best players ever. Forsberg the slightly crazier, more reckless one, Crosby the more calculated, chess-like precision one.

We should hire a hit man to take out Mr. Buttman.
Anyone here love the fact most of the players are jumping ship? How are they gonna work on a CBA if they are in the KHL playing,Training,Traveling,ECT. Get ready to loose the entire NHL season. Thank god I have the Syracuse Crunch for my hockey fix.

Crosby likes to cry more then Forsberg.

yes, except crosby isnt 19 anymore. i used to hate on him hardcore for being such a giant pussy, and although he does embellish still (does he? he hasnt played recently enough to really say) he isnt the crybaby he once was. that title goes to tyler seguin

I'd probably just start laughing my ass off regardless of who did it. which is a good thing btw, i'd definitely be dtf because if he could pull it off nothing would ever be awkward after that

I think the owners should get more money. Habs, Leafs, Rangers earn more than the rest of the league combined. 18 teams is losing money. They have to stand for all the costs, the players just collect their dollars.

The players need to realize that 49-50% of a GROWING market is excellent.

I also think they should freeze the salary cap at its current level for a few seasons.

I think they'll get to 50/50 eventually, but there's no way the players should take a hit on their current contracts. If the owners didn't want to pay so much for players they shouldn't spend so much (Sather, Lamoriello, Fletcher).

Yeah that's the thing I don't understand though, are the NHL legally allowed to roll back salaries if the salary floor is adjusted down? I thought the contracts were guaranteed.

They were. Under the old CBA.

Shouldn't the old CBA be in effect for all contracts signed under it?

Then why the rush to sign contracts before the CBA expired? The owners wanted those players under contract so their contracts would be affected by a salary rollback of some sort.

I thought about this.

What if the owners just went out and got all the best unsigned players in response and kept the current franchises rolling with all new rosters? Jonathan Cheechoo and Chris Drury would tear that shit up.

No it isn't.

And Avs top 6 in 03/04 was:

Forsberg, Sakic, Kariya, Selanne, Hejduk, Tanguay

Beauty. Except Forsberg and Kariya were injured for much of the season and Teemu had his worst year ever.

Teemu had his worst year ever because of a knee injury...

Imagine if the universe didn't function solely to bring despair to Leafs fans. We could have had Gretzky. The second greatest Ontario boy of all time (and second greatest hockey player of all time. ) playing for Ontario's own Leafs. That would have been such a great way to end the drought. Gretzky turned down serious money and would do almost anything to play here, it was his dream, and to top it off the reason we passed on it was because we wanted to save money for the ACC. The abandonment of Maple Leaf Gardens for the ACC was the reason Gretzky wasn't a Leaf. It's sick.

If only.

Don't even get me started on how Orr could have been a Leaf, and if only Imlach and Davidson could have been slightly bothered he would have been. I hate the world.
#107
Imagine it though. A Gretzky Gilmour one two punch. It's just not fair. Every few months or so I remember things like this, and I just wish I could stop loving the Leafs and go back to the Avalanche where the disappointment is mild in comparison. But god damn it Ontario made me a Leaf fan from birth, it's cruel and unusual punishment. Can we at least make the damn playoffs sometime

I'm curious. If Gretzky is #2 to you, who is #1?

Orr. The greatest Ontario boy in the history of Ontario boys.

You're a hockey fan. You should know that Orr is always #1. Always.
#110
That was my guess. Honestly, I think Orr and Gretzky are about equal. They both monumentally changed the way the game was played. The only knock on Gretzky for me is that at Orr's time there was nobody within 100 miles of him talentwise, while Gretzky had a few other players who were at least allowed to nip at his heels.

Nonsense. They were both unquestionably great and dominant, but Orr was just on a completely different level. Nobody could come even remotely close to holding a candle to Orr. He was simply so considerably dominant and influential in how the game developed. He saw the game in a manner that was so, so, so considerably ahead of his time and was so much better than everyone else. Honestly, just go watch some footage of Orr playing and read about him. It's just so brilliant. Just think about Orr during '76.

It's nothing against Gretzky. Gretzky was a special player. Orr was just, like, super duper special.

...I pretty much agreed with this completely. I just hear so many people regurgitate that Wayne was the best hockey player of all time that I was just curious to see who you put ahead of him.

You edited in and expanded your post. When I was writing it you didn't explicitly agree with what I wrote.

Maybe in America. In Canada we know our hockey, and we know that Orr > Gretzky for the most part. At least in the cradle of hockey, where I'm from. Anyone who doubts Ontario's superiority just needs to look at where the two unquestionably greatest hockey players of all time came from.
#114
I'll never deny that Americans in general know jack shit about hockey. Even most Michiganders know nothing about anything but the post 1990 Red Wings, and we're one of the best hockey states. I hear about Yzerman being the best player in NHL history and Lidstrom being the best defenseman in history almost as much as I hear about Orr and Gretzky.

Why did you delete your Orr post? I tried to reply with one of those laughing emoticons as a visual aid to help demonstrate the amusement the post brought me, but it was deleted. Now I am sad.
