i flew out the fingertips that sparked attica
cells down the hallway to the brick by brick
wall by wall we’re gonna free mumia abu-jamal
theres paranoia rattling in the governers office call
in state troopers, examine the printed rules
go haywire with whiteout until theres nothing but brutally policed Caucasian loopholes

i flew back to my bedroom before the dust had settled scared
caught in conversation with a temporary smelter questioning,
lord how should I react when you test my mettle
lord i dont know what to do with the stories i collect
volunteering time shooting shit with men in prison
what its worth this worlds a terrifying prism
refracting unjust light through weary pupils
catching single second freeze frame glimpses
christ shining through the steeples
but most of the time its dark
scepticism eating souls from inside out
quiet in the pews unholy pressure preacher saying its a sin to shout
and we believe him because the binary divides hold up
in institutions we took our first breath in
but its high time we take our first breath out since the enlightenment
black brown yellow white colored masses rising up for a new sacrement
sick of using under class blood for communion
for a ostensible union between an upper class and their salvation
I’ve heard the cliche rhymes since my inception,
rake by rake, hoe by hoe, we gonna make that garden grow,
we gonna slay that seven headed dragon,
take pills until that red flyer wagon we rode in on the culdesac takes us back to the hospital
and we leave in a box
but where has that talk gotten us
a life on the conveyor belt, welts hidden with makeup,
body used up when you’re thirty because society
stuck you with the backbreaking labor
of piecing together an unsung history,
unsure of your sanity and the distinction
between your reality and your ancestors under slavery

i flew out of the small print written in the revolutionary heart
of the child arrested for producing public art
mural start and stop spraypaint dangled out of context
in the plaintiffs focus on the trespass and not why
the government could not afford the school boy a proper canvas
pumping taxes into prosecution teaching
invisible populations they are the least of God’s children
anything to avoid the reparations or the retribution of the meek
strike breakers pointing to an invisible hand
holding black lungs under a creek
of institutionalized inhalation
of cockroach feces and public works insulation

i am the call
rake by rake, hoe by hoe, we gonna make that garden grow
but not in hiding like we’re doing now, like i’m doing now contemplating in my room
like i’ve been told to read that bible
brush up on my scripture,
by the time i’ll be wise enough i’ll be too old to make a movement
so now
i am the call
we must take the streets with love, gloves off,
hugging the enemy who grips us with deceit
we must not retreat, trust in the heart pulsing the floorboards under our feet
moving us forward like the only way we’ve ever known
brick by brick stone by stone
we’re not alone we’re not alone we’re not alone

i am the call

if any of y'all write music and would like to quickly compose and send me a 3-4 minute instrumental (guitar, piano, or otherwise) I promise you I will use it as backing for a future spoken word piece. Would love to collaborate with any of you! PM me if interested!

Use anything, although I don't upload my bluesy/jazzy/rock-ish stuf on there.
I'll look for something in my projects

Does it needs to be dramatic/emotional/whatev.?

I loved this, except this part

"but not in hiding like we’re doing now, like i’m doing now contemplating in my room
like i’ve been told to read that bible
brush up on my scripture,
by the time i’ll be wise enough i’ll be too old to make a movement"

It just didn't flow as well as everything else ( even though I didn't hear the recording yet )

I can look for some simple instrumental files I have around here if you want to Dyl, even though they're just intrumental audio tracks to help me in future recordings; I'd be glad to provide them as some sort of samples for you to use as bacjing.
