I don't understand Noel Gallaghers amplifier setup when running with Oasis.

He put a MARSHALL MG into an AC30 because apparently he 'love that Marshall crunch'.

Why get a Marshall MG when you can just get a PROPER Marshall?

don't ask a professional guitarist about his setup and don't take a professional guitarists opinions about his setup seriously. he PAYS a guitar tech to take care of this shit for him.

and so what if he did use that setup? his producer would probably never let it get on an album.

He's also normally paid to promote certain equipment and will claim it's a vital part of his setup regardless of whether or not it really is.

I always thought that Oasis sounded like it was recorded in the stone age of recording technology. So I find that claim believable.

MG is pretty bad but it can be workable to some decent tones. People that say they are fully shit are a bit narrow minded IMO.

^ here is a source

http://www.musicalads.co.uk/musical-instrument-buying-guides/marshall-guitar-amps-review/

you see, it has many of those names on the same page as a writeup for an MG. so it must be true...

but seriously, looks like this is the article he may be getting this from

I think some people are taking this thread seriously......

At least now he has Eric Clapton on the keyboard.

meh. the info is out there, i am just not too sure how accurate it is.

for example: am i to believe that Noel actually ran his signal through a marshall then sent the preamp signal out to cascade with another [much better] amp's preamp? this just doesn't sound good to me.

to me it sounds like some kinda half assed effort to piece his rigs together by intuition.

there is a pic of a small marshall on top of an AC30, the AC30 is mic'd and the marshall isn't: proof.

this quote from an interview sounds closer to the truth to me

"As far as amps and stuff, what did I use?... I used a Hiwatt Custom 100, a Blackface Fender '64 Deluxe, a 1980's Vox AC30… I'm not sure I've used any of these on Oasis records before… I can't remember!"

but your fans do Noel, and i am sure they are getting it right.

^ Even though Noel was high most of the time, he wasn't *too* stupid.
I call BS on the MG thing, and were MGs even around in 94?

And since when did he stop playing Les Pauls and Epiphone semi-hollows?? All I've seen him play w/ High Flying Birds is his ES.

they never actually say he played an MG, that is just their contemporary recommendation if you want to recreate the setup. if you are talking 1994, it would probably be a valvestate I that he would be using and they did have effects loops in VS I's. it could be a lead 12, but they didn't come with effects loops. still, i agree it is improbable, but it is plausible.

Coincidently enough, I had a very similar set up the other day at band practice. About 10 mins into practice my amp had almost complete signal loss. After going through the obvious process of elimination (guitar, cables) I had to next figure out if it was either the preamp or power amp that was goosed. Grabbed a nearby valvestate 8080 combo (purely because it had the fx send on the front) put it into my power amp (Marshall 9200) and realised it was the preamp that needed fixing. After playing about with it (putting the gain on the power amp up full) and sticking an SD-1 On the front I was very impressed with the results and was happy with it for the rest of practice. Hell, it sounded better than the other guitarists 6505!

I do doubt that it's an MG but I could be wrong. After my experiance the other day I wouldn't mind grabbing an MG and testing the preamp into a good quality power amp and cab.
