Searched quickly but didn't find anything about this. If you had to do it in a jam, and I mean up sh*t creek, not a jam session, but that would apply too. Well, maybe that applies more.

So if you had to use either a .10 or .17 string on your telecaster in a pinch as a B string guage .13 replacement, which would you use? You have an extra of each, but nothing in .13 guage. So whattda do? Which do you go with?

.10, it's the same as the B string on 8 gauge sets. It'll just be kinda loose for a while until you can get a proper replacement.

EDIT: Hang on a sec, what are you tuning it to? I thought standard. Then again if you're using .13 gauge anyway it's probably actually best to use the 17.
I shall grant you three wishes.

None of which will work.

Does the above post enrage, offend or confuse you?

Good.

.17, the .10 wouldn't sound very good with that little tension. My personal thoughts anyways.
It's over simplified, So what!

Replace a string? Makes more sense to buy a new guitar.

Why bother replacing the string? What you really need is a new amp.

what you really need is a fog machine, really adds to that 'new amp' tone.

Buy a new guitar? Makes more sense to just stop playing guitar.

What genre of music are you playing where you need the B string?

I once used a .16 gauge B string in place of a .12 gauge E string on my acoustic.
It lasted a few months until i fully restrung my guitar.

I had a friend who was held at gunpoint as a cashier. The robber told him to give him all the money in the register and what not. Apparently my friend then replied, "Would you like a slurpee with that?"

I'd go with the .17 since it's a .03 difference from the B, wheres the .10 is .04 difference, so the .17 might fare better. I've used a .14 B for a .10 E before, and bends were almost impossible but it's better than having the string tension of a wet spaghetti noodle.

.17, why would I use a B string that's lighter than my high E?
