I'm trying to work on my sound live by trying add some more pedals so I can mix things up a bit more. I currently use a mxr enveploe filter and the boss chorus. Im gonna get a octave pedal cause I like what you can with it. Im not into a fuzz or distortion cause ill never use one. So bassheads what do you guys use and what are some pedals that I could look into?

If you're playing any slap stuff then a Dunlop Crybaby sounds good, I borrowed a friends standard Crybaby which sounded good on my bass, and they make one specifically for bass as well.

Why do so many guitarists and drummers come here to ask help for their bass players?? Are we that shy in the wild?

Use bait!

Bass player looks nervous!

Use safari ball!

I have a great set up for guitar I have a wah, tremelo, phaser, delay and a tube sceamer but nothing really sounds good to me with a bass. I have wanted to try the bass balls but I havent been able to demo one so im iffy on it. Im begining to think im too picky or traditional as in minimal or no effects with my bass sound

I don't care if you don't like Fuzz, get an Attack Goat. I've been using with my funk band and dudes go crazy when that shit comes on.

An Attack Goat...hmm ...do they make the Suicide Goat yet, or is that for release in Afghanistan alone?

Seriously the name alone compells me to look at this.

This is the Signal Chain Boss to one Digitech:

SYB-5>PS-5>OD-20>EQ-20>BF-3>PH-3>CE-20>DD-20> Dgtch BP-8

That will keep you busy for a while. I took 10 years before I had time to explore the BP-8.

Sure there are great Analog Pedals out there. I just do not have the time to explore everything.

The dudes on the TB forums jizzed all over about these a few years ago. They pack a bit of a hefty price, but they're still cheaper than any given Boss pedal.
You can get really whatever sound you want out of them from a slight growl to head pounding chugchug worthy tone. Has an octaver built in for even more outrageous bawllziness.

Definitely check it out. Wounded Paw is the maker.

check out some multi fx pedals too. If you're just starting out with them and don't know what you like they're a great way to get a feel for what sounds you would like to use without breaking the bank to try every single thing out there.

Sure, the multi ones don't sound as good as individual ones do, but you can always upgrade when you know which ones you'll actually use.

Some I'd suggest are:
-Zoom B2 (http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/b2)
-Zoom B2.1u (If you want the pedal as well: http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/b21u/)
-Boss ME-50b (does more than enough)
-Boss GT-6b (http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=239)
-Line 6 M5 (http://line6.com/m5/)

All great ways to start out on effects.

If you don't wanna go the multi fx route and want individuals I'd say start with a compressor and a tuner then go from there.

^ The Zoom B3 slays all those. And it's only $200. Drum machine, looper, a bunch of amp models and about 90 different stomp boxes which sound very true to the originals and the ability to share and update over the net.
If you want to get into effects and you're not sure what to get, get the Zoom B3.

I don't know how that one didn't get included in my list. Definitely had the page open still just forgot to copy and paste. Good addition. Tried to give some cheaper options as well as some a bit more pricier. I agree though, that one takes it.

Octavers get pretty glitchy and disappointing on bass, The Pog series though gets good credit for not being glitchy.

As long as your lines stay tasteful and to the feel and groove of the piece it's fine. But don't make pedals a gimmick just to make a lot of sounds live.

I run two amps and my only non dirt pedals are a bassballs, Qtron and a chorus, I think I might dump the filters, just need the occasional rippling low end from my solid state head under my dirty tube amp.

if i was in a band that was playing the prodedgy. what pedals would make a good bass synth sound.

You know what would be really sweet? Having a beautiful bird inlaid around the first fret, taking a majestic dump with airborne droppings around the 5th, 7th, 9th frets and so on, with a graceful impact around the 22nd-24th.

I know I said I wasnt really looking for fuzz/od but looking into some I think I could rock on one. Ive got it down to two(see links below). Both have pretty good qualities I like and the demos for them look good. I just hate taking a shot in the dark and it not being what I wanted. So have does anyone have/used either one of these pedals before?

I used a blow torch for about a year, before selling it on too Spaz here on the forums!
It's a wicked little pedal, a little synthy/square wavey and has a nice EQ, plus with the torch off you can get a mroe subtle growl, or wack it on and go for a kinda Muse-esque distortion. The bass and cello player from Earth both use one too, and they are built like tanks.
I've never tried the tech 21 one, but I do use their VT Bass pedal, and that thing is freakin' amazing for tone!! Does anything from vintage thump to full on ripping overdriven amp tones, and it all sounds pretty natural

I have both of those and both are great but completely different to each other.

The Tech 21 blends a lot of the dry signal back into the fuzz. So it's hell of a lot tamer than the Blow Torch. Vintage tones are easy to get with it but the more aggressive sludge/stoner type fuzz are much harder to achieve.

On there hand the MXR is quite sludgy out of the box. It's a Russian Big Muff on steroids and more.
Damn it! Disable can't use disable to disable Disable's disable because disable's disable has already been disabled by Disable's disable!

Yeah I seen that and thats why I was looking more into the tech 21 due to amount of dry I can put in with my fuzz tone to keep it still pretty punchy. Im not tryimg to do anything crazy with it so I dont need a lot of OD/fuzz so I think I may go with that. Thanks guy!

I got rid of my mxr envelope for the source audio envelope.Which is my eyes and ears is much better. Try looking into the source audio one the pro one is more expensove than the mxr but they have one which is around 120 which has more sounds and shapeability than the mxr one. Check that one out also if your looking for a envelope.
