TS, please, please, just wait on this. I know it is hard to deal with your current amp, but what you are doing is buying an amp just to buy an amp. It will be an improvement, but just the way you put it that you found something that you could get is proof that you really have no idea what you want. Just wait, save money, and then try this thread again. I think that if you buy that you need to thoroughly investigate lots of amps regardless of price range and then set a goal.

That's an excellent idea. That is how I have funded my amp purchases, and probably how I will forever.

That is an excelent idea! It is better to wait it out and get a better amp you will be happy with for a long while.

In the mean time go to all the music stores you can and try out various amps so you know what you like and what it will cost you new or used.

Why does a guy who can allegedly crank his amps anytime he pleases need an Amplug?

Peavey make all sorts of amps from clean solid states to brutal tube amps and everything in between. They are solid amps used by working musicians all over the world. Your aversion to them because one band uses one type is looney tunes of the highest order.

So the appropriate response is another cat

You're severely limiting yourself if you won't play an amp because "some metal band" plays it.

Are you looking for something that sounds good within your price range? Or are you looking for something to show off/brag to your friends?

It seems like the latter with that kind of attitude...

I'll never understand how people in this day and age still think amp companies are operating in 1966 and only offer one model of amp.

And I mean, to hate on Peavey specifically - they've done versions of like every amp ever. Fender clones, Marshall clones, on top of the fact that they pretty much pioneered the modern metal sound with the 5150. That carries a lot of weight and is to be respected, regardless of your musical taste.

I know my inner fanboy is leaking, but I don't like a company for no reason (although TS seems to dislike companies on the same merit).

I really don't care about number 2... It's my gear, not theirs. I have to play it at the end of the day.

If you're actually looking for something good, you have to consider Peavey because they're actually in your price range and they make good amps. Not ALL of them are for metal.
