Yes, I'm not joking. I actually use guitar distortion pedal (Boss MD2) on my bass, and it sounds nice fresh and different from the traditional bass distortions. i'd really like to hear if anyone else have done that, and if so, with what pedals and how did it sound?

and to everyone saying that i'm out of date, bassist used guitar didtortions before they started making bass distortions, the MD2 differs so much from old distortion pedals by giving more gain u can imagine. and it also has a separate control for bottom, so it sounds pretty massive.

I use a Blackstar HT dual pedal for distortion, it gives such a gutsy tubey growl especially when biamped with a clean bass signal.

You know you're a bassist when you think a guitar is just some freaky type of short scale, six string bass.

People used guitar distortions back when there weren't bass distortions available. I think Cliff Burton used guitar distortion pedal for example. They work the same way but I think the guitar pedals might not be as good for lower tones. They might lack a bit bass (or that's what I would expect). I have tried some guitar distortions on bass but I can't really tell if they were good or bad. They were pretty high gain, not really for my style. I think people don't use as heavy distortion on bass as on guitar.

Just remember that there are no boring scales, just boring players.

i've used a couple of rat pedals, i think a vintage and a you dirty as well as a standard big muff. haven't really used any bass distortion/fuzz/od pedals to be honest with you, but my paycheck is looming so i may break into to them.

Back in the days of the dinosaurs, yes the bass players used guitar distortion pedals like the Sovtek Big Muff for bass.

Try a few out for yourself and see how you feel about the difference. I think a good bass pedal handles the low end with better tone.

the MD2 is good for that cause it has a separate control for bottom, and it actually makes the bass sound more massive and powerful than without it

I used the Boss OD-20.

So many Pedals, I could nto choose, so I got this one with a Low Octaver to drive the Bass Back up that so many Pedals lose.

With the 4 presets, well, things get fun.

Yes it is Digital, and until I take a Vision Quest for the be all end all Bass DIstortion, I am happy with this one.

Tubes, yep I got em, two of them, so there is some warmth in all of this.
