I have been playing electric guitar for a year. I started with Epi LP Plain Top. I sold it and now I'm looking for a new and unique guitar. My budget is around $1000, but less cost is better of course.

I like Les Paul type of guitars. Importance of looking of my guitar is a very big deal for me. I want something like these:

I don't think I need a very custom guitar, which has custom type of wood on the neck, body etc. I probably don't need such custom guitars because probably I'm not gonna be able to feel the difference. But, if I have to find someone to make custom guitar for me, it should have the quality at least of an average Epiphone Les Paul Standard's. Otherwise I think there wouldn't be any point of dealing with all these stuff.

In addition, I don't want my new guitar to end up such a disaster:

So what do you think? Should I find someone to build me a custom guitar with such paintings and everything? Or should I buy a les paul and get it re-painted? I have no idea about both.
Approximately, how much is the cost of getting an average custom guitar and getting any les paul guitar repainted?

I'm in NYC by the way.

It is hard to get "special painting" on a guitar. You should check some jacksons Dinky, but they are no LEs Paul shape.

He said NYC.

Anyway...

I know a few American luthiers whose standard designs start around $1000, but for a paint job like that, you're adding at least a couple hundred dollars to the build, if not more.

This is because most of them start their full-custom work at $2000, and none of the guys I'm thinking of does a true LP shape as a standard design, last I checked.

And the Carvin LP-style guitars start at $1000 and would be high quality...but they wouldn't have the kind of paint job you want.

Getting someone to do that paint job would add about $400 to the bottom line- dissemble, stripping, repainting, and reassembly isn't cheap.

That doesn't mean it's not possible, though. I'm just talking about the luthiers whose work I know for sure. I've got a few hundred guitar builders' websites bookmarked, but I can't say exactly who does what for how much off the top of my head.

I can think of some guys who do "custom LP's" for instance, who could do the design in question for under $1000, but I don't think their quality would be the same.

Since you're in America, the Epi Bullseye sig is very much within your budget. I don't see the issue?

Yeah, get the Epi. I'd go for used too. Then, if the action can't go as low a you like, take it to a competent luthier to have some fretwork done.

take a look at the gibson les paul nitrous. it's a hair over your budget but it has endless customization possibilites. that orange one just screams to have a ghost flame job.
dude ! you live in NYC ! i could find a thousand good airbrush artists in bed-sty alone !
i had one of my Ovations done with a distressed american flag theme for $300. it looks like it came from the factory with it.
