Mitt is dangerously socially conservative, which is funny given his religion allows him to marry like four women, which makes one question his mandate to criticise gay marriage's effect on the "sanctity of marriage".

I thought the Mormon church had a message from God that they should stop with all the polygamy about 2 days before it was made illegal?

So you don't see anything wrong with the rich presidential elect purchasing THE VERY MACHINES PEOPLE WILL BE VOTING ON?
Also, this could be an interesting point against the"I have a boner for the free-market that won't die" jackasses.

Can someone explain to me how one can "own" voting machines? Isn't the government responsible for them? Or did the USA privatize their own ****ing elections too?

Private company HIG owns the voting machines. Romney, his son and wife own the majority share of HIG.

Of course he's bought them in Ohio.

This is ****ign ridiculous and I can't believe it's even been allowed to happen.

Here's a problem that I see in the US. People despise their opposing party(dems vs repubs generally) so much that they would turn a blind eye to their party's candidate cheating in an election. Obviously, this doesn't mean everyone is like that, but I wholeheartedly believe that the majority of republicans would much rather have a republican steal the election than allow a democrat to take office.

It's no secret that the people of this country are their own worst enemy. This is why a network like Fox News can have so many viewers while spewing such bullshit.

I'm not saying you're lying, but I'm gonna try and push that idea out of my head to try and retain some sense of sanity. I don't even want to consider that that could be true.

So this is how its going to go down,
1) Romney gets elected
2) He does something really stupid
3) ???
4) 2012 end of the world happens. JUST like those silly Mayans predicted.

Actually, those "silly Mayans" have everything running in cycles. The end of their calendar is also the beginning. See, their calendar is literally a circle. When you get to the "end", you go back to the "beginning". That's how it works.

Even if he does get elected, he won't get inaugurated to be the actual president until 2013. So if someone does something really stupid to cause the end of all times, it would most likely be Obama (if the president is the that cause it, that is.)

I hate that I can't even vote until next election. If I could, I would vote for Obama. I don't really think he's the best for the job (Gary Johnson is in my opinion) but Obama is objectively less shitty than Romney. But who knows, maybe this creepy fundamentalist asshole thing is just an act. Romney is known to flip-flop on issues just to win an election.

Obama and Romney both fit this description.

I don't trust either of them.
The whole "Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely" thing.

It doesn't really matter a whole lot who you vote for.
They will ALL make promises to get into office and then ignore those promises for their own benefit.

I would personally like to hear from both candidates what income level they consider to be "Middle Class".
I consider Middle Class to be around $50,000 Yr. (Give or take a few thousand).
Maybe I'll make a thread/poll.

Well, as an American who is old enough to vote, i thank the flying spaghetti monster that you're not old enough or an American citizen. Obama has CONTINUED bush's wars, he has CONTINUED bush's illegal domestic surveillance operations (and EXPANDED them), CONTINUED bush's corporate bailouts, CONTINUED bush's idiotic subsidies for "green energy," CONTINUED bush's over regulation, labeled political dissenters as possible terrorists, used the FBI to instigate terror attacks so they can then foil them, killed an American citizen without due process, stormed into a friendly nation without warning, and levied tariffs on Chinese tires (oh yay, a trade war.... just what a country with a poor economy and a ridiculous debt needs)

on top of this, mr. compassion has also rounded up more mexican families and shipped them back south of the border than bush ever did, and he has ordered more raids on medical marijuana facilities in his one term than bush did in two terms.

I know what you're going to say... "but at least he's not bush." I hated Bush, but i would take my chances with a third bush term before i would take my chances with a second Obama term. So you give me a choice between Obama and Romney, I'll take my chances with Romney.

Incredibly typical attempt to tactically and silently gain an unfair advantage.

There's probably tons of similar examples like this that have happened before.

Some chairman of the country's largest insurance company is the candidate's good long time friend. The guy hands over a company's power and ownership to his son, which happens to be a member of the senate or something. The VP of an arms company secretly guarantees stupid low prices on weapons to a higher-upper so that he may then gain popularity by waging his war and not putting his country into crushing amounts of debt, thus gaining favour. And the list goes on and on...

Six zillion instances of it happening in the world, six zillion different scenarios of it. That's six zillion times six zillion uniquely different types of secretive yet casual corruption. And oh yes, in your very own backyard in freedom land.

The world; welcome to it.

I doubt this will have any impact on the election. The government would never let a private company simply tell them who won and end it there.

Of course if I'm wrong then this is a pretty big deal, but I highly doubt that there isn't some kind of system put in place to make sure rich people can't rig elections.

There's a system sure, but it doesn't always work.

Generally the failsafe is to count how many people actually voted versus how many votes the machine counts after the voting is done, because people think that ballot box stuffing is the thing we need to watch out for. The way around this is pre-loading machines with negative votes. Where you have one candidate start with something like -5 votes and the other with +5. Then, the machine says the total is zero, but one candidate already has a 10 vote lead.

We know at least some of this occurred in 2000.

Hey do you remember the 2nd debate between Romney and Obama? Remember that one? The one where Romney calls Obama a bully and then Obama gets the last word. And how does Obama respond? He shows respect for Romney the human being, but then he attacks his policies by reminding everyone about Romney's "47% of Americans are shiftless bums."

So what I am saying to you is this--you can attack a person's ideas, but if you attack the person directly, then you have already lost the argument.

So in this light, I wish to congratulate anvil is god on his wonderful parents and wonderful upbringing. BUT I also need to remind anvil is god that he has not seen how Europe has been consolidated into one bloc called the European Union? Is this not a supranational organization? Also has anvil is god is heard of the Free Trade Act? The U.S., Canada, and Mexico signed one a few years ago and there are rumours of eventually including South America as well. Would you not consider the Free Trade zone a type of supranational unit?

So I was merely referring to these organizations as an example. "Supranational" means "above the nation state," in case you did not know. What I was saying is that the recent trends towards supranational organizations mean that the leader of any single country loses power to the bigger multi-national organization, like the European Union in the example above.

Instead of sticking to the logic you have crossed the line by attacking me personally. Therefore, you have lost the argument, as well as making yourself look like a retard.

That is all--you are dismissed.

I think this is immaterial because Obama is going to win the election anyway. i do not think the Romney campaign successfully accomplished its goals enough to sway any of the swing states. The fact that Romney has a connection to the machines doesn't mean that the machines don't have to be aggressively tested to make sure they work right, after all - the prospect of rigged voting machines stealing an election is pretty out-there considering the level of regulation and depth of bureaucracy in America.
