Guys, think about it. Pixar can do stuff with Star Wars now. And George Lucas won't come near it. What more could you want?
#43
I was literally just making this thread.

This is so stupid.

All we wanted was to forget about Episodes I-III and just get our Battlefront III.

But nooooo, they decide to make Angry Birds: Star Wars and sell themselves to Disney.

I watched part of Attack of the Clones the other day on tv

Hayden Christenson's acting was so awful in that one. So much of that movie was awful. The padme/ anakin "date" scenes were... ugh

I was really hoping for a more adult oriented Star Wars movie if there was to be one. The prequels were all flash and effects but I want a more gritty, darker side of Star Wars. But I don't think we'll see that with Disney owning them. At least George Lucas can't ruin more of it.

That official blog post confirms 3 new movies

Then on June 29, 2012, I found out. I was called into a meeting to discuss, oh, something or other about updating future messaging for Lucasfilm. In order for me to get a better grasp of what that future entailed, my boss just sprang the news on me that, and I quote, “We’re making seven, eight and nine.” He didn’t say Star Wars. He didn’t have to. Why else would those numbers have any relevance?

One of the main problems with the prequels was the shitty dialogue and poor direction from Lucas who was more concerned about pandering to shitty merchandise opportunities. I still maintain Ewan McGregor was awesome as Obi-Wan. Saying that, I'll agree that Christensen and Portman just didn't really gel.

I'm good with Lucas staying away from it, but I want dark and gritty Star Wars. I don't want family-time Star Wars.

Side note: Anyone remember Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars? They were ****ing awesome.

I'm so glad this is happening. I've never seen the old movies because the puppets and string always look so fake but the more recent ones show the advantage of modern effects in making wicked sci fi movies. So happy to see what they can do next. Disney are the perfect people to bring these films to the masses

This.

Trying to not let myself be predisposed to not like it, but disney does not reassure me.

Fair points. I would very much like to see a grittier take on Star Wars one day, but at this point I'm just happy to have the property out of Lucas's hands.

I'm not guaranteeing that the films will be great, mind you; we have a long while to see whether or not Disney sticks the landing. But I think the potential for a truly great Star Wars film is certainly there, and I never thought I would have the chance to say that.

The prequels were only good for 5 things:

5) The Podracer N64/PC Games
4) Furthering Ewan McGregor's and Natalie Portman's careers
3) Stopping Hayden Christgodallmightyhesuckssomuchassen's career
2) The sweet effects
1) GENERAL GRIEVOUS (okay, not a very good top spot, but you can't tell me he isn't awesome).

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I really enjoyed Hayden Christensen's performance in the movie. He was so dreamy. It makes his descent into evil so much more heartbreaking. Plus his chemistry with Portman would be hard to recreate with another actor. All in my opinion of course

The only way this could be good is if they base the new movies on the already existing Expanding Universe.

Because this is something I will fight to bring down. **** tyranny and starving children, this is Star Wars we're talking about.

You seen those starving children in Africa? They're light weight and black, those kids got speed and jumps. They'll be fine.

3 Films though? Well...I don't know what to think. I don't have high hopes, and I definitely don't have high hopes if it's a pixar film.

Also, I blame Hayden's Christensen's performance on Lucas's direction.

I include those with the special effects. =]

I always say 90% of bad acting is bad directing. Sometimes an actor is just shit, though. Portman was shoddy, but look at her in other films where she is much better. I can't say Hayden's ever been good for me. I mean, he was one of the worst things in Factory Girl with the worst Bob Dylan portrayal I've ever seen, and in the same movie Guy Pearce gives a brilliant Andy Warhol performance. You are right though. Lucas's directing was pretty shite with the prequels. There's a reason why he didn't direct all of the original trilogy.

I thought he had absolutely no command as a main character. I dunno. I can't stand him as an actor at all.
Portman's pretty good at making chemistry in films. Hell, her few minutes with Jude Law in Cold Mountain were better imo. I guess I can see what you mean about his descent, which is a fair point, but if that's the case he could have done more. Pacino's descent in The Godfather was brilliant and he wasn't some happy go lucky guy at the beginning either. He was relatively neutral as a person but just a good guy. Kind of similar here. The difference is, when Pacino got evil, it was pretty damn frightening. When Hayden did, I was just indifferent. I know there aren't many Al Pacino's in the world, but it's just an example.

I want a new one/remake of 2 like you wouldn't believe.

EDIT: Also, bros, I'm going to write up a letter asking that Rian Johnson be the director/writer. Maybe then we'll get a great ****ing triology. (Looper, anyone?)

Jude Law had a lot more experience behind him than Christensen, not to mention the fact that he has worked with Portman on other occasions and therefore had the chance to build up a rapport. Hayden Christensen isn't taken seriously because of his looks which is a real shame because he's more than just sexy, he's a real talent.

Yeah, guys, he was in "Goosebumps" and "Are You Afraid of the Dark?". Mo'****as got skillz like you wouldn't believe.

See, the weird thing is you are raising good points at times, Simon. Fair enough about Jude Law's experience. However, I honestly think Hayden just isn't a good actor. I even come from the same town as him. I've met his wife/girlfriend/whatever Rachel Bilson, and his high school is literally a five minute drive from me. I should be rooting for a hometown native, but no. I think he's crap. I'm sorry and it has nothing to do with his looks ahaha. Michael Fassbender's a "pretty boy" too but he damn well earned his keep as a breakout star. Hayden didn't do enough and that's why he's not big or in much. Looks only get you so far but talent takes you all of the way.

No but I'd happily swap bank balances with him at any time. I just think he gets a hard time for very little reason. That's merely my opinion.

I agree to an extent. I'm a big Fassbender fan (gotta root for my fellow Irish) but he didn't have as much spotlight glaring on him from the start. Taking on such an iconic role at what was essentially the start of his career left Christensen open to harsh criticism that was always going to appear when he wasn't exactly what the original had called for.
