So Charvel have put out a new line of guitars called "Pro Stock". It appears to be the Desolation single cut (which is an amazing piece of kit..) but with a more vintage feel. When I say vintage, what I really mean is less Schecter like finishes and passive Seymour Duncans instead of the Blackouts on the Desolation.

Would have.

The ones with the zebra pickups look great. Let's hope they're not shit like the Desolation guitars.

Interesting. These might just be Charvel equivalents of the new Jackson Pro series. Though I have to say I prefer the stuff that the Jackson arm is putting out. Even though these look nice, I'm another one to agree with Bob. They're just not Charvels.

Since they're making the new Jackson Pro DK's in Fender's Mexican factory, I reckon the next move for Charvel ought to be to start building the San Dimas and So-Cal in that factory too.

There's a thought - has there been any discussion on here about the new Jackson pros at all? I haven't seen any. Maybe I ought to start a thread...

If they do the stars like that I'd be interested, Im dying for a star but I hate all the tacky binding on the desolation ones

I'm sure they're well built, but it's a shame they discontinued the Pro Mod San Dimas guitars. Those were the essence of Charvel. No-one else really makes guitars like that any more (at least not for a reasonable price).

Is there any news of a Guthrie Govan model?

Yeah, I don't know why charvel has such a boner for LP shapes.

Bring back the Jap Pro Mods, they rocked.

They may well bring them back - but they won't be Japanese any more since Chushin Gakki shut down. If they tried to source another Japanese factory I can only see the prices being pushed up to the point that they may as well just build them in the US like the first round of Pro Mods before they moved them to Japan. I reckon that if they bring them back they'll be coming out of FMIC's Mexican factory.

^ yeah that's the problem (price, i mean) the bolt-on jackson dinky dk2m pro is mexican.

I saw in a couple of pictures that on Bucketheads Les Paul (only some pictures) that his neck pickup is painted in white. Can anyone explain to me why he would do this, and if there are any pros and cons.

I hope thesse are better than the desolation series.
I really want a Les Paul shape with a good heel and the heels on charvels tend to be very nice.
If the quality would just be on par with an LTD-EC1000 I would get one.

Actually, now that I think about it, I would love it if they made a Pro Stock Star model.

It would be awesome to have Pro Mods in all shapes, MIJ of course...

The Desolation series is legit. Love mine.

I've heard a great many bad things about the quality of the desolation series.
The 2 that i was able to try at my shop felt like low-mid range guitars. I think they're Chinese made. Not sure if that has much to do with it though.
#26
While we're on the topic of Charvel, does anyone know why they stopped making So Cals and San Dimas'? I was hoping to get a So Cal sometime in the future, hopefully they bring them back before too long. They seemed like great guitars for the money.

Its a shame , it just takes a few hundred bad guitars out of several thousand to ruin a guitars reputation. but like I have said before, if it was a Gibson people would be able to justify it and do when they turn out a pile of garbage.

The desolation series is a 299-800 range guitar made in china by 10 year old kids most likely. I have a Star in blue smear and it is an awesome guitar, maybe a first run made by a more experianced person. But it rocks.
What the hell!!!

And I have a couple of MIC guitars right now. The are better than some CURRENT MIA guitars right now.Its just with MIC guitars the % of crap to good is more twords the crap side, you gotta play a few to find a good one......sounds like a Gibson fan boy dont it

But I do like the blue one more. And I agree a Charvel should NOT be a lp shape or anything like that.
