Saw Skyfall last night, what did you guys think of it?

I thought it was a good movie but it just didn't have that James Bond feel to it. There were a couple moments where I felt like it was a classic Bond film, but at some parts it just felt like a 2000's action movie rather than 007.

Overall, I thought it was a good movie, and the new actors have put the characters in place to keep the franchise going. So what are your opinions on it?

Ignoring Casino Royale, it's probably the best James Bond film ever. Craig is easily the best Bond. Most people's issues is the fact the message of the film went completely over their head. They're reinventing what the "James Bond" feel is, and that was the point. They've surely learned that when you put competent directors and DP's in charge of a film, you get very good results. No more shitty people calling the shots.

Liked it a lot (although the Adele is pretty half-arsed, especially the chorus 'all together' bollocks), good mix of traditional Bond, the kind of Bourne-esque newer Bond and a tiny bit of le Carre style espionage psychology.

All very good but it's going to be harder and harder to keep the series this consistently good, mainly because the Craig Bond films have all been about digging up his past and emotional wounds and then how he moves past them and gets a bit more detached and insular.

The reason there are so many older Bonds is because the story was 'crazy villain steals something, bond goes in to get it back, ****s some girls, kills guy, goes home', which never needed any emotional involvement.

That's what I was thinking.

I felt like I could have done without the entire scene where they went to the big house. Would have been perfectly fine if Silver shot M right there in the courtroom, imo.
Also, I thought the opening credit sequence was phenomenal the way they used Adele's song. It actually made me like the song.

That whole part where M is reading the poem and it keeps cutting to Silver as he takes out the guards felt like it was from TDK

I loved it.

I really liked the house part. I thought the setting and how it kept getting darker was really cool and well shot.

I also saw it last night. It was pretty good and totally worth $7. I liked how they brought back some characters.
The Adele song was a big disappointment and really not that great.

A 'classic Bond film' would bomb nowadays. The series had to evolve to survive.

I didn't like the whole house scene either, it just seemed way too violent for a Bond vs. Villian showdown. In past movies he would have used some Q gadget to cleverly kill the villian, but this time he's blazing with automatic weapons and such. It just had a different feel, much like WCPhils said, more like the gritty rough Dark Knight version of James Bond rather than the classy, cool, suave Bond that I grew up watching.

However, Javier Bardem is by far the best Bond villain I have seen in a long welcome.

Slightly off topic to the actual film; I've seen movies on opening weekend before, but it was never like this. They had two separate lines waiting to get in the theater, plus we got there half an hour early and most of the seats were already reserved.

I saw it midnight release and the theater was packed an hour before. It was insane

The only time I've been in a theater like that before was HP: Deathly Hallows Pt. 1

They should stop calling them Bond films and just admit it's something else entirely.

It should have "died" and just been a classic film series.

Nah, I think Ian Fleming would have approved of the modern interpretation (more so than some previous iterations).

Awesome film. Can't understand why people complain about it not being similar to classic Bond movies: nothing can beat the Connery era at what made it great: that type of Bond peaked at Goldfinger; so why not turn the franchise into something else entirely? Besides this has been happening since Casino Royale.

I just wasn't expecting it. I was lulled into a false sense of security by the fact that it doesn't come out here for 11 days. I expected this to be an anticipation thread then BAM spoiler in the face.

What's the point in having spoiler tags if you ****ers don't use them?

Anyways, this is the best James Bond movie in recent memory. It's also the best looking action movie in ages.

At the end when Silva holds his head up to M's and is like "Do it with one bullet" is wow. That's what made me like him as a villain. If I had one complaint it's that we don't get that sense of insanity until the end of the movie.

Looks like a lot of people are disappointed with it not feeling like a Bond movie. Isn't that the whole point? To give that feeling? That's why people go see a James Bond movie in the first place...

Have any of you noticed this?
Have any of you noticed the minister's nose during M's court scene? Every time she open's her mouth, her nose points down. It distracted me from everything that was being said. Luckily Bond's chase scene with Silva was put in there.

It felt very much like a Bond movie. Moreso than Casino, which is still universally praised by Bond fans.

There were so many throwbacks to old Bond films that if you left a screening without it feeling like a Bond movie you're too dense to know one when you see one.

Horseshit. The dude's weird as all hell from the moment you first see him. Nigh on strokes Bond's ****, shoots that woman in the face for no real reason, goes full on mental about that cyanide pill...I thought he did enough for it to come across, I actually thought he had one of the best performances of the film.

Even without the throwbacks, the tone was very much James Bond. Remember how everybody was like "Craig isn't charming enough to play Bond?"

STILL FEEL THAT WAY?!

Not only did we get charming Bond, but we also got layers to his character. It'll be cool to see the character moving into the future.

This as well.

How anyone can watch the scene when he's shaving and not feel Bond is beyond me.

EDIT: It's cool to see so many Americans loving Bond as well

It came across as movie insanity, not actual insanity. It was like they were telling me he was insane, not showing. If that makes sense.
