If you could see yourself as a guitarist in say 10 years, what would you like to be able to play like? ie: Do you want to be able to shred like Yngwie Malmsteen or EVH? Be a technical God like John Petrucci? Down-pick heavy riffs at 200bmp like Hetfield? Have the soul of SRV, John Frustciante, or The Edge? Blues it out like BB King?

And please don't say all of the above LOL, just be realistic. What would be your ultimate goal as a guitarist that's in the realm of possibly?

play and have fun at it!

Over the time, I've watched a lot of technique and a lot of videos and I've learned a lot. I like it a lot when I discover something new! There's so much technique and paterns, it's a lot of play time!

to be honest, i've hit most of my goals as a guitarist. the only ones remaining are related to improving my knowledge of jazz chord voicings and jazz soloing.

Being able to play up to the level I need to be able to play what I want to write and record.

So, give or take a few years.

I'd like to understand the logic and theory of how music works. Something I'm not ready for.

Before that I want to learn techniques such as old school punk, funk, ska rhythms.

Fingerpicking styles of folk, blues etc.

Be able to play crushing leads and solos like Slash and the Froosh.

And maybe along my adventure I'll encounter not so familiar styles.

Not in exact words, but this is what I had in mind.

Create awesome music
Travel and play shows
Have a great time with the band & the crew
Hopefully create some money to eat something else than water and bread

Also I'd like to have the soul in my solos like Gary Moore. Now that's a challenge.
To add, I'd like to be better at improvising stuff.

Skill wise I'm not too far off. I don't really do many styles that require high amounts of technical skill so a few more years of practice and I should be more than comfortable.

I would like to create more stuff on my own though and get better at recording/producing it. Also it's still kinda a dream of mine to play live some day.

I've been a hobbying guitarist for like 5 years now and I still only know how to play a handful of songs, but I play the shit out of them because it's fun and learning is kind of frustrating sometimes without a teacher.

I'd love to just be able to play the songs I like (rock/metal) at a decent speed, cleanly, and just generally have fun. I have a major problem that whenever anyone else is around, I tend to lose all sense of rhythm and focus. If I could get to the point where I could just learn by ear and play around my friends without totally effing up and sounding bad that would be great.

I'd love to be in a band but I don't think I have the commitment to guitar for that... if my past has anything to say about that.

I did try out for a band once, but omg it was so hard because they were just trying to get me to learn their songs on the spot and it takes me some slow-down practice to learn a song well.

Being able to just pick a song up and play it would be amazing, or even just to be able to play with my buddy improvising random stuff.

All I wanted when I started was to be able to shred and now I can, so I realized my dream.

Feels good.

I would like to be
able to write and record
anything I hear

Whether its in my
head, or playing through speakers
I think that's very cool.

Or maybe,to tour
in support of my story
fantasy story

it would consist
of three parts in three albums
and likely, sci-fi.
Understand nothing, in order to learn everything.

I would love one day be good enough to find a way to make a living off music. Whatever involves having to learn to play and/or write as wide a variety of music as possible (session musician, arranger, or something like that). That or something similar to what Brendan Small does... not necessarily as metal, though.

THIS SO MUCH. I agree because to me, guitar is simply the medium to create the music that i want to create. I want to write songs that people like and that are meaningful, i could do it with a piano or computer or what have you, but for something just pulls me to that piece of wood and wire.
So my goals are to be able to make any sounds i want so that i can make any song i want.

This in terms of career. I love playing. It's an enormous part of my life and I can't see my self doing anything else on a professional level. I want to be able to pass on some sort of legacy to my hypothetical, maybe baby children.

In terms of playing, I've actually begun the process of analyzing my sweeping technique. I'm not 100% where I want it to be on the 5 string sweeps. 3, 4 and 6 I've got down, 5 is weird Composing is a never ending learning journey, I can only get better at that, but I need to work on my technique a bit more. I need to start actually writing solos for my bands songs too

i have done this, and it is truly a great feeling. and if i can do it, anyone can.

i'm kind of tipsy ATM, so i'm in a mushy mood lol. but seriously, anybody can do what i do, as long as they have the discipline and are willing to put in the effort.

you can do it man.
