Alcohol isn't illegal though, but buying it is. In the UK at least. A parent can legally give their kid alcohol at any age over 5. You can even buy alcohol with a meal from age 16 where I live.

Parents doing drugs with their teenage kids? That is the weirdest thing I've heard in a while.

I smoked weed with my mom once.
It was the weirdest moment of my life, and I`ve been caught with my dick in my hand, by my brother, with a giant close up of a dudes face on the tv.

Sigh. You're so awkward. It's only at the age of 5 in beer gardens or your own home or somewhere like that. Anywhere else and it's not legal for an under 18 to drink alcohol. Therefore the alcohol is illegal.

Most of the discussions in this thread (pertaining to both alcohol and drug use) have been about using in your own home. This thread is about drinking/using with a parent's permission, and it's legal at your or a friend's home (say, at a party) if you have the parent's permission.
And restaurants can sell it to 16 and 17 year olds, even without a parent/gaurdian's permission (in Scotland, permission is required in rest of UK).

First time I smoked weed was with my mom when I was 14. She doesn't like me smoking cigarettes or drinking tho. That being said, she doesn't do anything to try to stop me from doing either because she knows I can handle myself pretty well. My dad doesn't like any of my substance use, and will rant at me if I've been drinking.

If I have kids I guess I'll smoke weed with them and drink a little alcohol with em. I won't give em enough that they'll be totally trashed, but I have no problem with a few beers and joints on the weekends or something. Of course I won't be drinking with my potential children when they're small children, but I guess around 14 yrs old would be cool.

I found that a lot of my friends whose parents were fine with them smoking weed and drinking in the house and stuff ended up doing it way too excessively. It almost seems like a ticket for "yup yup smoke as much weed as you can all day" instead of encouraging their kids to enjoy themselves but still be productive and responsible.

I mean, one friend I knew since elementary and hung out with all the time in high school, her mom was way too chill and just stayed home smoking j's and hitting the bong all the time haha. Eventually, she ended up doing nothing but staying in her room smoking pot as well... So I mean, it's good to teach your kids some real info on drugs, and better to have them smoke pot and drink at home instead of getting ****ed up in the park or street and be brought home in handcuffs, but if you don't teach them to be productive, good chance that they will end up being "burnouts" pretty fast.

Yes, send their parents to jail, and beat the children.
Because that`s totally reasonable.

Maybe a punishment that doesn`t require beating children, or taking away parents would be better...

Spare the belt, spoil the child.

Maybe it should be the other way around. Parents belted and kids jailed.

Maybe both the parants and the kids should be put in jail then belted. That way the family stays together and gets to bond over a shared experience/torture.

I don`t know if you think I`m saying it`s ok for them to do, or that inprisonment and beatings are the only way to punish crimes.

Both are wrong though, so it doesn`t really matter.

my parents fuarking hate chronic, cigarettes even more. but they're basically fine with alcohol. my brother admitted he's been drinking since he was 13 but my parents dont care because he had a 94% average or so in his senior year of HS. lol

My mom's okay with alcohol and drug use as long as it's not in her house. When it comes to alcohol, she can be a lot more tolerant and will occasionally let me have my own bottle here (as long as we can afford it), but she's not okay with other drugs and doesn't like knowing that I (used to) smoke up.

She does buy all my cigarettes, but there aren't any age restrictions here (never been carded here for anything), she just has all the cash.

Most of the parents I know think this: if we try to stop them, they'll just do it behind our backs anyway, so it's better if they're drinking where we're available if things go wrong/prevent them from going that way.

In my experience, children whose parents think that "cool" parenting is to not discipline them or give them any boundaries end up much more scared and vulnerable than other children. Kids need an adult in their life who will tell them 'no'.
#68
My parents don't buy me drinks for parties but they're pretty cool with me occasionally going to parties and having a good time

I mean shouldn't that be the key? Moderation?

my parents are too old and too Christian to do any weed or other illegal drug. basically they say no to cigs and illegals.

My mom has admitted to doing weed but she says that it isn't like what it used to be... sounds like bad logic

my dad would probably let me have a beer with him while watching hockey or something... also we have coffee's together almost every month

but mom is straight edge... ahem teetotal

Actually no that's even worse. It has to be consistent. Kids hate inconsistency.

Straight edge is for people who tattoo big black crosses on their hands and preach to everyone about how healthy they are. I guarantee you that unless your mother frequents emo gigs, you meant to say that she's teetotal.

My parents were cool with me drinking when I was around fifteen and then became really uptight until I turned eighteen. They still used to supply me with beers whenever I was going to a house party or a friends house. I guess they knew they could trust me.

It's funny, because I'm now 21 and pretty good at holding a fairly large amount of alcohol, but my parents are completely anti-spirits. If I'm at home, I still get disapproving glances from my dear old mum when I pour myself a couple of fingers of whisky to read a book with

Is this actually a big deal in your parents eyes? I've been drinking coffee three times a day since I was fourteen and I guess it's easy to forget that caffeine is a drug.

My parents are pretty much against weed and fags but I used to be able to have a gulp of wine once in a while when I was younger. Don't know why that stopped now. And I know when my dad was a child he used to skip school with his friends and go smoke from a tobacco pipe. And my brother started drinking when he was sixteen but my parents didn't really care about it.
#74
My dad found out I started drinking when I was 15. He was angry at first, but after explaining how I was completely responsible and I'm far from a fuckup kid, he didn't really mind after that.

I don't know if he knows I smoke cigars now. Probably, since I've come home smelling of it multiple times. I'm 19 now though, and it doesn't really matter what he thinks about it.

My friends and I were all responsible about it though, so it wasn't really a big deal.
