When it comes to comedy, do you guys prefer your swear words to be censored or uncensored? Or does it just depend on what it is? For example, I think the censored version of this sketch is way funnier than the uncensored version:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4Uf9rsBbhc

And here's the uncensored version:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvkBvzpbBPs

What do you think, Pit? For me, a well-placed bleep can be hilarious.

Intentional censorship can be funny. Forced censorship is lamesauce. WKUK is always objectively funny.

it depends. you know when they release the original R rated versions of PG-13 movies? never seem to be as good. i wonder if that's the nostalgia factor. saving silverman is much funnier as a PG-13 movie than an R movie. a lot of jokes work better as clean jokes. it takes no effort to drop a bunch of f bombs and make shit jokes. you have to be clever to say it without saying it.

This is my line of thinking a lot of the time as well. Censorship can help creativity in some cases. Not all cases, mind you, but some.

As a side note, I love watching R movies on like FX or TNT to laugh at all the hilariously bad replacements for the swear words.

bleeping brings attention to the word, which can be hilarious. the video you posted, TS, was horrible. but it was less horrible with the censor. what I really hate is when they just blank out the audio. then it feels awkward.

This basically

Edit: and ironically. People might pay less attention to swearing in a tv show if it wasn't for the constant loud beeps.

Uncensored all the way. However, I will say that certain movie scenes can be funny if you watch the dumb TV version after seeing the original ("this is what happens when you find a stranger in the alps", instead of "this is what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass")

Quote by primusfan
the big lebowski is great at that because the coens negotiated that they can write their own replacement dialogue. subsequently ... it is awesomely bad.

Censorship can be really funny, but it depends on how it's used.

Tell us how you REALLY feel, Corey!

OT:
It depends. I don't really enjoy it when comedians make jokes where the "funny" element is how many times they say swear words. I don't mind swear words, but it's really lame when the punchline is implied to be "fuck" or "shit". Making a creative joke takes more than just add a few "naughty" words.

Sometimes I find bleeps to be humorous, especially when they are unexpected.

Also, the "This is what happens when you fight a stranger in the alps!" is hilarious because it's totally irrelevant to everything.

Censorship is based on the concept that people haven't

A) heard any of this profanity before

and

B) that they're in-equipped to deal without without becoming some sort of twist-word deviant.

Both of these are stupid as a basis for anything relating to censorship.

Do you know why the South Park kids swear so much?

Because that's how little boys actually talk when the parents aren't around.

Actually, that's how middle schoolers talk when the parents aren't around. Most of them grow out of thinking they're cool for doing so within a year or two of entering high school fortunately.

i often swear around my daughter, and she knows how to already (she's only 2) but she also knows when to use it. as long as it is not used inappropriately, or in the wrong company, i dont see a problem with it.

What I truly hate is when people force swear words into their comedy. It only makes it look like they were desperately trying to be offensive. Swears should only be used as emphasis, not garnish.

I'm looking at you, Seth MacFarlane.
You are now using UG Black.
You are now using UG Classic.

Mhmm. Ever since the dvd releases, and the bringing back of the show, they thought "oh, we can have these released uncensored... Why not go all out?"

South Park did this with the movie, but it worked because it made fun of that fact. South Park now sucks, but I won't go into that.

With Family Guy, it's the same shit they always pull. "This joke worked? I'm going to do it again and again". I don't just mean characters that were "funny" or situations (greased up deaf guy, chicken fight), but I mean styles of jokes too. It's more than just "remember that time I got an enema from a dinosaur with peanut butter on his mother's potpourri?", or the random humor in general. They just re use so many styles of jokes over and over and it's so tiresome.

The swearing bit is one of those jokes. Oooooh, baby is swearing, LOL. Oh no! A sheep swore! AHAHAHA. Look how much this guy is swearing! Ohhhh noooo! I bet that sounds like a mess on tv!

The clip I posted of Buster Bluth was one of the rare instances of words being censored, and pretty much one of the few times, if not the only time, they used that joke.

Family Guy has no idea how to progress and how to move on.

Apple's made a pretty similar business model. Throw the same shit if people are willing to catch it in the face.

...

Business models no not equate to being jokes

Unless it's Microsoft LOLOLOL I kid, I kid

If something sells, you keep at it and expand on it. They still expand on it. New models of same products, new features on same products, upgrades, etc. Does Samsung release the exact same phone but two years later, and all it is is a different colour with a different name? No.

Jokes get stale. Jokes are based on first impressions, longevity, and creativity. Not comparable at all, even as a joke.

No, it's just silly to censor. It's just a way to prolong the man-made-up things such as a bad word or indecent behavior on which the view has already changed so many times, and it is going to again. Censoring is just stalling. And, it plants the idea in the people's heads that censorship is not really that bad.
Not sure if a sig is a necessity.

I don't see the point in censorship unless its intentional.

I like it when swear words are censored (not because it offends me, because they fucking don't, bitchcuntassraper). I'm not sure why I do, it's just easier for me to watch, I guess.
