gothic/doom metal (Katatonia - which is one of my favourite bands ever since)

yep

katatonia was probably the big step up for me in regards to musical taste. still love them to this day.

On the come up we were listening to Grateful Dead and the music started passing through my bowel and out my arsehole as this violet stream of light. I shat music. It was beautiful.

I've expanded my tastes a ton since last year but I still like them all, it was probably

Foo Fighters
Rage Against the Machine
Alice in Chains
Soundgarden
I dunno, Tool?
#43
Wow it's pretty hard to remember what I was listening to 11 years ago. I do remember being into Rancid, Green Day and The Offspring. As for the other two...who else were big circa 2001?

Edit: the foo fighters for sure

When I was 15 I was just starting to get into metal I think, so probably:

Children of Bodom
Trivium
Disturbed
Billy Talent
Bleeding Through

Out of them I very occasionally listen to a bit of Trivium but other than that I don't listen to any of them.

Actually I also remember listening to Trivium and In Flames.

Also, I remember being quite heavily into these guys, they were my first venture into Prog, I still love a few of there songs.

Then:

Pearl Jam
Nirvana
Pink Floyd
Metallica
Guns N Roses

Now (currently 25):

Friends, applaud the comedy is over.

Hmm...well I remember being such a little emo kid back then.

The Used
Senses Fail
Emery
Scary Kids Scaring Kids
Chiodos

I think it's funny how listening to most of this now does nothing for me, but back then it was the best stuff ever.
Oh f*ck it,
I'm gonna have a party.
I had the blankest year,
I watched life turn into a TV show.
It was totally weird.

This pisses me off.
Why couldn't I have been listening to these bands at 15 instead of AC/DC and stuff.

Nirvana
Metallica
Ozzy
Staind
... I always ironically called these my "top 4" back then and never really went beyond that as far as numbering them. There were bands that I liked nearly as much as these but I didn't put them in a top anything.

I guess GnR could be the fifth, they were one of the last bands I considered my "favorite" a few years before getting incredibly into both nirvana and metallica..and before I decided I had a "top 4". But then again I stopped listening to GnR when I got into nirvana cause of the whole Axl vs. Kurt thing. Alright, WTH...I need to STFU here..

Nirvana
Metallica
Ozzy
Staind
Guns n' roses

And it has long since changed, thankfully.

The top 3 are still my top 3 over 20 years later. AC/DC probably still make the top 10.

I know my top 3 were DragonForce, Metallica, and Iron Maiden, hence my username. I no longer like DragonForce, and I only like some of metallica's songs now, so as well as sounding ridiculous, my username is also irrelevant

I'm not sure. If I had to guess though

Green Day
Sum 41
The Beatles
Weezer
Rise Against

eh, not too bad

Only one I don't really care for at all anymore is Sum 41 but I'll still give em a listen out of nostalgia every now and then.

I don't remember my top 5 bands, but Megadeth and Sabbath were top 2, I was slowly growing out of metal at that time though, getting into hip hop and softer rock bands.
