What kind of scale are using? Because they're songs sound very punk-esque, and their solos have a distinct sound. At least from the certain songs I've listened to. . . I'm only assuming it's a scale they're using because it's distinctive to their brand of music.

Like, does Japan teach a certain scale which isn't taught in America? Or is it just that certain musicians mix up modes and get different kinds of feelings from their playing?

I'm just interested in replicating it! If anyone has any idea, please tell me!

That sounds more like an American sounding scale. Not sure on what one, but modern Japanese music has been heavily americanised, so there's a lot of love for pentatonics.

However, if you want an actual Japanese sounding scale, the closest one I can think of is:

E, F, A, B, C, E

and I've no idea what it'd be called.

A pretty good sounding japanese sounding scale that I came across would be

e|------------------------------------12--|
B|-----------------------10-12-13-------|
G|----------------9-10-------------------|
D|------7-9-10---------------------------|
A|-7-8------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------|

In the position of E. I have noticed that it sounds pretty good in fast metal aswell.

Song you posted is basic Western music, sounds like the major scale to me haha. The scale the others posted is called the Hirajoshi scale, very useful pentatonic scale that sounds better to me starting on the second mode of it, but let's not get too technical..

Ok, thank you!

I'll put it to great use.
