Hey UG.

I have been searching for a new amp for me on a budget of $750. First I was really into tube and was planning on buying the 6505+ 112 or the 333XL Infinium. Then I came across this new Blackstar series called ID. Especially the ID 260 TVP.

Has anyone tested it yet? I have been searching all over but I haven't found any reviews or user opinions on that amp or even that series. Since I am mostly playing at home, and I live in a flat I thought that this amp is a much better choice than a brutal 120W tube amp. Am I wrong?

I have also one more question. I guess that some of you guys are looking at this series right. I mean not planning to buy, but just reading about it, and since I'm not a professional with amps I'm having a hard time choosing between the combo (ID 260 TVP) or the head (ID 60 TVP-H). The cabinet will be really cheap if I choose the head, but who knows how good the speakers in the combo are?

If anyone has any other recommendations, feel free to tell me. Also, I could save up for $1100 if I would be getting a much better value for that kind of price.

I think Andertons released a video of it, that probably wont be hard to find on YouTube. Take everything they say with a pinch of salt though, they're videos are more sales pitches and than honest reviews. It should at least give you an idea of how it sounds, if nothing else.

Blackstar have a very good name, and are known for being great value for money, so I would imagine it's a good product. Obviously you can't just go on assumptions though!
I deeply regret the 6661 in my username. Siiiigh. Damn you, 14 year old me, you edgy little bastard.

Thanks for the respond.

Do you think this would be a better choice than the 6505+ 112, if I'm now only going to use it at home? (It's not that I wont crank it up at some times, but mostly kind of low volumes)

ok, so:
1) I am not personally of the ID series from Blackstar. The tube modelling doesn't seem to make a huge difference, the effects are meh, you know. Just another modeller to me.
2) a 6505 will rape any modeller except a Kemper or AxeFx for breakfast.
3) 6505s have volume knobs (; so you will be able to play at low volumes and crank the shit out of it for band rehearsals if need be.

Now, answer the questions in the sticky on the first page of GG&A and we'll have you set in no time

how many tubes are they REALLY sticking into that thing?

I'm really not sure how much difference there'll be for differences in power tubes unless you send the volume to 11, and even then can the TVP software really model the sounds accurately.

"Blackstar have a very good name"? For what? Lying through their teeth? Flimsy circuit boards? Being unethical?

So I would be better off with the 6505+ 112? Is there any pedals I am going to "need", for a more wider sound range (not just metal)? Of course I mostly play metal, but sometimes it's nice to jam to some Hendrix or similar.

Get yourself an HD500 and a powered PA speaker. Maybe the Alto TS115A. The SS.org guys are nuts about it. About to buy one for my HD Pro.

Blackstar isn't worth your time. Maybe if you wanted a Series One, but their HT and ID product lines are... Well, they're shit.

If you must have a real amp and are considering the 6506 112, buy a used Peavey 5150/6505 212.

You can also get a Laney Ironheart. Maybe a used GH50/GH100/VH100R. Not really sure what to suggest, to be honest. I don't know what sounds you are aiming for. Which is why my first suggestion is the HD500. It will do anything you want. Except sleep with you.

that's what i was thinking.

if "bombarding the guitar magazines with adverts since they started 5 years ago" means "having a good name", then maybe they do.

I saw in a couple of pictures that on Bucketheads Les Paul (only some pictures) that his neck pickup is painted in white. Can anyone explain to me why he would do this, and if there are any pros and cons.

The guy wears a KFC Bucket and a white mask during performances, and you're interested in the color of his pickup covers?

I'll be honest - I'm no expert with amplifiers like I've heard you are through these forums. I know vaguely how they work, and I know what sounds I like and dislike, that's as far as my knowledge really goes, and I would imagine that's about the same for most of the people on here.

I've played several Blackstar amplifiers and enjoyed them, and I hear a lot of good stuff about them, that's all I meant. If you disagree, then I wont argue as you're a hell of a lot more knowledgeable than me with this stuff, but I personally didn't like the really blunt way it was worded. What you said could all very well be true and I'm not trying to start any arguments or upset you, but if you have some kind of information or opinion that might be of use in this thread, it's probably a good idea to explain it in a bit more detail.

they strongly imply the HT series and their pedals are all-valve when they're not. Even when called on that fact, their marketing department (though emails someone sent them) continued to make claims that were, well, dubious at best (in my opinion, and others' here).

they're not the first to do that, and probably won't be the last. But it doesn't exactly endear them to me, either.
