Hello, i am new to this forum and i would just like some help for making some decisions on what equipment to get.

when i first started playing guitar my parents bought me a fender squire starter pack (i got it here: Magasin de musique Nantel - Ensembles / Fender Squier Affinity Strat® Special with Fender Frontman Amp® 1.) i also bought my self a boss distortion amp. im thinking of advancing myself in equipment so i was debating between getting a schecter omen 6 diamond plus or a Marshall MG30FX amp. i like playing hard rock like asking alexandria or avenged sevenfold, if you can suggest anything else that i should get instead of that please leave me suggestions. i am 14 years old and my budget is around 300 dollars. what should i do. thank you!!

Your amp is the first thing I'd upgrade. The frontman amps are not great by any means.

https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1387138 - Fill this out for us please. It'll help us out with some better suggestions.

Also give this a read - https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=278232 - loads of good info there.

I'd stay away from the MG30FX, mostly because for the price you can do way better.

Sell the Frontman and the MT2 and grab a Peavey Vypyr. http://www.nantelmusique.qc.ca/produit355_0/peavey-vypyr-75.aspx

Or you can get the 30 watt version - http://www.nantelmusique.qc.ca/produit354_0/peavey-vypyr-30.aspx

You'll want something with atleast a 12 inch speaker. Your used market is fairly dry, Vypyr is your best bet IMO.

How long have you been playing the guitar for?

300 buckeroos isn't much to go by, can you hold out and save up a little more?

Can you explain to her at all that you'll be able to afford something much better if you do? I mean that's your situation really, you can either sell that stuff and grab a Vypyr 75, save up for longer or just grab the 30.

As stated, $300 ain't much.

Like Eppicurt mentions, the Peavy Tube 60 is a pretty good bet... you'd be able to get pretty good metal tones outta that thing.

Is there a reason your mum doesn't allow you to sell the MT-2 and the Frontman? Chances are, once you've upgraded, you won't go back to that little SS amp.

I was actually talking about the 75. The 60 tube was a bit out of his budget. I know they're just a big practice amp, but if he was using it for school performances I thought that it'd suit.

But yeah, a Tube 60 would be way better.

My bad... I keep thinking that the 75 is the tube instead of the 60 :p

Ask to borrow money from your parents, then work it off by doing chores and get this as Cath recommended.

Sell it without her knowing? I get if it was a present and what not, but honestly, who cares? They're both incredibly average pieces of gear and they won't get you anywhere near as close to the sounds you're after.

Either way you have these options;

A) Buy the Vypyr 30.
B) Sell the Frontman and MT2 and get a Vypyr 75
C) Save up for a while more and get the 6505 112 combo Volcz posted.

i dont think its worth buying the vypyr 30 because if im going to be spending money i might aswell be spending a bit more and getting more. should i go for the vypyr 75 or the 6505. and also is it just better if i keep the frontman and get a schecter. is my squier gonna sound a lot nicer if i get a different amp
#21
that is like keeping your first car forever just because your parents may have bought it for you. everyone sells vehicles to help pay for newer or better ones at some point. to keep it and never use it is wasteful.

this perfectly valid point is not, however, a reason to ever disrespect your mother. just thought it might be useful.

What you should really do is this:

as you have a small budget and new a guitar AND amp you should save a little more and get
either a Peavey Vypyr Tube60
or a Peavey Vypyr 30
and that Schecter.

I think the 30 and the Schecter would be the best route as it's relatively in budget and will sound great.

the peavey vypyr tube 60 is 370$ and the schecter is 330$ id need to wait like two years to get this money.....

It's all you man. It's cool if you don't want to offend your sister or anything. I've been there before with family gifts.

6505 112 combo sounds like your best bet. You can wait for another guitar, your amp will make mountains of difference.

A better guitar will still sound like sh*t through your Frontman.

Your priorities should be:

1. Amp
2. Amp
3. Amp

Playing a Squier Strat through a Mesa MKIV will sound pretty good. Play a Fender 1962 Stratocaster Slab Board in Sunburst (at $43,900) through a Frontman, and your tone will be pretty crappy.

Ok but which amp will be teh best around 300-340$

Well if you're that eager to buy right now I guess the Vypyr, unless you wanted to have a stab at this which is really better as a rock amp rather than metal..

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Marshall-JCM-2000-DSL-401-combo-guitar-amp-NO-RESERVE-/130826242491?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e75da09bb&_uhb=1#ht_500wt_1414

But honestly I think you should wait till you have enough for that 6505 combo because you will be pretty amazed at the difference between a modelling amp, and a tube beast (which is specifically catered for your sort of tone).
