Hi Guys!

I'm new here and this is my first post so please be gentle

I recently bought a guitar, my first guitar (Yamaha FGX720sca). The sad thing is that I can't find it's serial number. I'm worried if I got ripped off by buying a fake guitar.

I didn't buy it from a local distributor. I bought it from seller that said it was given to her by her uncle overseas. (I'm from Philippines)

P.S. I would like to add some photos but i don't know how :P

I would doubt somebody going to the bother of copying a lower end guitar, especially an acoustic which I have never seen a copy but I am sure they exist

For pics you would probably have to host on something like imageshack and link

I think you should post this in the acoustic guitar section. I have no idea about acoustics.

Have you Googled Yamaha fgx720 serial number? I did, and I found this. http://www.yamaha.com/apps/guitararchives/serialnumberwizard.asp

Send them an email.

Also, from a quick search it seems some older Yamaha don't have serials or they weren't organised very well.

Google is your friend, as will Yamaha customer support.

Plus I found this. http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/guitars/round-up-4-affordable-cutaway-dreadnought-acoustic-guitars-236844/11

There's not a huge amount to find about that guitar.

Post here, there seems to be recent activity there. http://www.yamahaforums.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=49

How does the guitar play? I know you're new to it but does it feel copied? Is the logo wrong, the frets sharp, not inserted onto the fretboard right etc?

I cant see why somebody would copy such a cheap guitar. It would not surprise me if it was just not stamped, I have seen more than one guitar at the lower end not having a serial number.

People copy Epipones and Squiers because of the logic you presented. But don't take that as a shot, I don't mean it to be offensive.

People are copying lower end guitars because no one expects it, therefore, they won't be inclined to think it's fake.

it does look legit. the fgx720's are a fairly new line. i dont own a 720 but i do have an AC3M. it looks like Yamaha's SRS preamp ssytem. i'd say it's legit. just checked.. my AC3M doent have a serial either. it's on my case candy paperwork but not readily visible in the soundhole.

And what is the profit margin on those? Pretty much nothing, which means it probably isn't happening to any large degree.

Don't see how it could be done. Wouldn't the fakes come out of the same (or similar) factory with pretty much the same level of production?

Some very low end stuff does not have a serial #. I have a Lyon by Washburn. It doesn't have one. It doesn't even have a model number, for that matter.
