I'm skinny as **** but I want to start doing regular exercise because:

(a) it makes me feel better physically and mentally
(b) it helps me get a good sleep
(c) it can be fun
(d) I like the feeling of being all sweaty

Is there any online guides to total body exercise that isn't geared to building muscle (I don't want that)? Like, just to get fit?

Just do a bit of everything. Get your endurance and fitness up with things like running, cycling and swimming (try do at least 1 and a half hours a week).

To counter all the muscle loss and to gain strength just do some simple sets maybe something along the lines of.

Press-ups and bicep curls for your upper body.
Leg raises and sit-ups for your abs.
Squats and Rock climbers for your lower body.
Planks and Dumbbell Squats for a bit of everything.

Choose three exercises that work a different area and do them for 30 seconds each you can alternate the exercises for each set.
3 exercises = 1:30 mins. try do 3mins (2 sets) before you take a short rest. Get your heart racing and you'll be staying trimmed whilst building muscle. Do 6 sets (9mins) 3 times a week, do 2 sets before resting and go flat out start to finish.

Example...
Set 1. Press-ups - Sit-ups - Squats (30secs each)
Set 2. Planks - Leg raises - Rock Climbers (30secs each)
Now you've done 3 mins take a 30 second rest.
Set 3. Bicep curls - Leg raises - Dumbbell Squats.

I'll sign up! I've lost a bit of weight over the past two years but I'd like to tone up more and be able to run 5 miles with my dude if I want to. Also been climbing/bouldering so gaining muscle whilst keeping off the lbs is a main goal

I guess I'm in?

I didn't really get what the thread is totally about. I'm not doing the couch to 5k thing... but I totally need some motivation to go work out/run more often. So... hopefully you guys will help me out with that? Or is there another thread about that kind of stuff?

My housemates are total meatheads... like, this is an actual picture of various places in my house:

They work out 4-5 days of the week and are all about THOSE GAINS. They even got me to sign up for a gym membership at Golds, so I've been trying to go with them as much as possible. I'd be lying if I said it's easy to get up and go to the gym every weekday. I'd also be lying if I said the gym hasn't benefited me. About a month ago I successfully put up 185 (pounds) on the bench, which was a pretty big milestone for me. I mean, I'm not exactly skinny, but I wouldn't say I am fat, either. Ever since Christmas break, however, I have not made it back to the gym. I have my reasons, but when it comes down to it, it was just because I had a severe lack of inspiration.

The only thing I ask of you guys is for a bit of inspiration and to not let this thread die halfway through the year.

Edit: I'm not saying that I want to get buff or anything. I'd just like to be generally healthy, fit, and attractive.

Yeah. The 5K thing isn't necessary. Just about working out and getting in shape.

I'm in, cardio is my top priority so I'm definitely going to do the couch to 5k thing. I also want to start some strength training, maybe the hundred pushup thing or something like this since I have a dumbbell set lying around. Does the workout in this link look decent?
#49
I'll join in... I want to lose 10kg over the next 2-3 months, and I know it's possible because I've done more before. So cardio, yes please.
#50
Who knows, maybe I will even do the couch to 5k thing just for the heck of it. I ran cross country for a couple of years in high school so I know I can do it, but maybe this thing, like having a planned schedule, will actually get me going and make sure I at least do a bit of exercise every day.

I started something like this dead on two weeks ago. Lifting 3 times a week and completely changed my diet - high protein and fat - low carbs on non work out days and high protein and carbs with low fat on workout days. Dropped all sorts of sugar too. I've already managed to drop 15lb - feels great.
#52
So I want to lose maybe 20-35 lbs. Is there anything I can do that will help me lose weight but not bulk up on a ton of muscle

I'll do it, but there's an annoying amount of snow and ice over here right now. I'll have to find a decent spot to run, otherwise I'll hit the Y.

Count me in I'm pretty good at sticking to gym/run/dance schedules but I want to clean my diet up. I did keto for a month or two and it was fantastic in every way but I was forced to stop because of traveling and visiting relatives whose only goal in life is to feed me everything in their house. I plan to start keto again tomorrow and i won't rely on cheat days this time. Eating too much carby food makes me sick now :/

Yeah, I'm in. I'm going on a (clean) bulk until mid-March, then gonna go on an 8 week cut ready for my holiday and hopefully that'll coincide well with our next boxing competition.

I'm in, I did lose 9kgs the last year(18 pounds I guess?) But during the horrible fatty food-candy-beerfest of December I have gained weight and I'll probably die if I go out for a run or a swim, I don't even go outside most days. I'll start to hit the gym when school starts in a few days though, will try to report in here for my progress.

Couch to 5k worked for me when I did it six months or so ago. I would recommend it to anyone.
I've decided that my signature is terrible. I'm open to suggestions.

Yeah, sign me up. I'm not sure this will help, but I need all the help I can get.

I think the longest I've ever stuck to a routine was just under a month, but I'm planning on trying to go hardcore for 2 months and get in good shape before I get a job. I don't expect to be ripped, but I'd really rather not be the chubby guy when I enter the next social circle in my life.

My goals for those two months:

- Run/walk 100+ miles
- Eliminate most sugar from my diet
- Stop fapping (seriously, I feel great when I don't do it for a while and I think it'll help me feel motivated to exercise)
- Eat more vegetables and fruit, cut down on junk food and pizza
- Get my sleeping patterns straightened out
- Take vitamins and fish oil supplements every day
- Do the 100 pushups program

I'm also thinking of trying the Insanity workout program, but it looks sort of hard on your knees and I already have bad knees as it is. I also don't know if I really I have a place that I can do it with any sort of practicality.

I'm going to try and do all of this starting next week and push on until the end of February, see where it takes me. Good luck to everyone else signing up.

EDIT: Oh, and a long term goal of mine is to run a marathon of some sort for charity. I've been interested in something like that for a while, but I don't think I'm quite fit enough right now.

Just want to say to everyone here, if you can't afford a gym membership, you can buy a decent pull up bar for about £8-£12. The kind that extend to go inside the door frame are pretty versatile.

I wanna sign up. I dont care about my weight, as long as I look/feel good enough for myself. I weigh 72kg, am about 174cm tall and 16 years old. Last year I ran 420km, and my record for half a marathon is 1.55.

Goal: Half a marathon under 1.50. I'm participating in Helsinki City Run in early May. By then I will be capable of kicking the ass of the 15-year-old myself. Secondary goals are running more this year than last year and beating my unofficial 10km record which is 47 minutes.
(EDIT Oh yeah and other challenges I've set for myself are no drinking in January, and I've seriously considered participating No Fap February

We've got a shitload of snow here in Finland, so atm I'm keeping fit by skiing and playing hockey (neither that seriously). I'll be able to start running in late March (I know, not that much time to practise running).

Could the goals also be included in the participation list, as well as an "accomplished" sign once the goal has been achieved? Not to brag or anything, I know that there are guys who just kick my damn butt every day of the week, but having a reminder of one's goals is motivating. Just saying that I too am super motivated to get myself fit as I've been drinking a shitload during the past 6 months

1st day back to the gym... and I really don't wanna go... meh. Guess I gotta just do it.

The big thing for me is nutrition. Anyone got any recipes got some sort of snack bar that can be made in bulk? I gotta have something to bring for when I'm at work or school all day and I can't cook anything. I've seen the Meal Replacement Bars on Scooby's website that I'm planning on making, but I want a couple of different options in case I don't like them.

i lost 43 pounds in 2 years. main things you require to do

reduce appetite. .coffee, water, cayenne pepper supplements
increase metabolism in most cases, coffee or green tea
increase protein reduce carbs and sugars

endurance exercise may not be right for you. watch the truth about exercise (bbc) on youtube.

Got you two listed.

Shawn: If you want some advice, go slowly. Don't try to do too much at once or you'll drive yourself crazy.

fc89konkari/everybody: Feel free to post goals in a short list and I'll post them in the OP.

Why not bulk cook foods at home and take them in a lunch box?

I'm up for that as well. I was doing that with chicken and rice for a while... but I got really bored of chicken and rice and I'm not a very good cook either

For anyone wanting to lose weight, here's a fantastic tip.

Drink 2 glasses of water within the first 30-60 minutes of waking up. It kickstarts your metabolism for the day. Make it cold too, your body will use extra calories heating it back up.

peanut butter flapjacks. cup of rolled oats put in pan with melted peanut butter and you can add dried fruits cinnimon honey or anything. put on clingfoil in oven on bakingtray.

alternatively i eat greek yogurt with similar added ingrediants. v high in protein

Allright dude!

Running: Half a marathon under 1.50, over 420km during the year, 10km under 47min

If thats too long, then just:

Half a marathon in under 1.50 (+secondaries)

Thanks!

Just finished my workout. Ten minute run, then chest and triceps. My bench is so weak. Only 225 for 3 reps.

Then came home and ate 2 servings of whole wheat pasta with some olive oil. Nomnomnom

Sounds pretty good. So You melt the peanut butter in the pan, then mix in the rolled outs and other stuff, then put it in the oven?

My bench is pretty bad at the minute. I'm doing about 75kg (165lbs) for 4x8. I fractured my wrist though, so that was my first workout in about 9 weeks when I tried.
