Just curious to what UG listens to the most haha

I guess just pick what genre you listen to/ enjoy the most, care most familiar/ comfortable with, play/ write... Sorry if I'm giving you a bad case of cognitive dissonance, I'm only allowing one option :P

If you don't like me grouping together certain subgenres and the like, too bad, I'm ignorant and can only write ten poll options.

...but emo, indie and grunge have nothing to do with each other

in fact indie isn't even a genre, it's a classification that can encompass many genres...
#8
hmmm....

no post-rock on the list (that's the cool genre these days)

you've lumped hardcore with screamo & "the other type of emo"

I truthfully cannot answer your poll

In a sense Alternative's definition is becoming really blurred. Now it's turning into an umbrella genre. Basically if it's not classic rock, metal, or punk, alternative gets slapped onto it.

mostly like, indie/emo/screamo/brian fallon related things/electronic music

but there's no choice for that

Do you listen to screamo, Jay?

Been listening to post-rock a lot for about a year, but I voted "Indie/ Emo/ Grunge/ Alternative." Seems like the closest thing on the list aside from "other."

Aside from that as the main thing I really like, I also like prog, shoegaze, metal, and I'm also getting into emo.

That's always been the case, alternative was never really a genre either.

Indie is pretty much the new alternative, in that it's what's slapped on anything that doesn't fit into classic rock, metal etc.

where have you been blake

I know you listen to emo but I can't think of one screamo band you've mentioned besides maybe loma lol.

Still, "the other type of emo" is nothing like hardcore, neither is screamo. Apples to Oranges.

Pretty much, it's like if an Indie band signs onto a major label, they magically get dubbed as Alternative whether or not their sound actually changes.

I know, I just based that generalization on a similar melancholy/ reflective/ "angsty" sort of vibe I feel from those genres

whatever >.>

Just think of it like this: What's the genre that you're the biggest nerd of, as in you could talk about for hours with strangers who share similar tastes? I admit that's not a very good basis to decide what is your favorite music, but that's how I decided on metal :P

EDIT:

I love Cap'n Jazz!

Let's say American Football is Indie Emo and Cap'n Jazz is the "Other" emo >.>

My last fm says: 'I'm into rock, electronic, alternative, indie and ambient', which is true but so much of what I listen to doesn't get scrobbled so it's not taking everything into account.

Real skramz should pretty much be shoegaze with screamed vocals imo

Post rocky screamo is good, don't get me wrong. That's what my band plays.

But saying that it's the only "true skramz" is butteating retarded.
