a real superstrat is something you build out of parts.

That's not old...if it was, I'd be ancient, since I have 2 kids within a year of finishing college...since I'm not ancient, you're wrong...

On topic, I've always thought a 'proper' Superstrat should have 24 frets (or more), but that's just me.

Truth be told, I've not lost any sleep worrying about the definition.

Here's a interesting discussion of the characteristics of various SuperStrat Pups.

http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/showthread.php?158315-EMG-vs-Duncan-vs-Dimarzio

I have a variety of Duncan, Dimarzio, and Gibson pups. If I had to pick my favorite pup for a SuperStrat, it would be the Dimarzio Evolution.

My favourite 'Old Skool' Pup is the Super Distortion.

Though I'm also a huge fan of whatever the hell they have put in my Suhr, but I had been told they were shit.... So

Nice! Samick makes excellent guitars for many Companies. Who makes the GFS pups?

GFS is Guitar Fetish, they make their own pickups.

Great pickups for the price, all 3 ran me about $80.

no i'm pretty sure those wider guidelines already existed before this thread did. and you were the one arguing for said narrow definitions, not us.

Pretty limiting definition you have.

So let me follow your logic- take a SS with 24 frets, streamlined body, dual hum buckets and an FR. Now change the FR to a fixed bridge and its not an SS?

I am not arguing for "narrow definitions," I merely stated my preferences. I prefer SuperStrats with HSS configurations, coil tapping and FRs. To each his own.

Hey guys,

What do you think?
I personally would add a EMG DG-20 set and make the Floyd Rose a reccesed one, 24 frets instead of 21 and have the headstock wood color instead of the red.
BTW I always dreamed of making a Strat neck thru, any comments?

Cheers,
