I want to know with which guitar I can play these songs the best (besides from learning the cords of course). They're my favorite, and I would love to know what guitar makes them sound best. I know that it differs from guitar to guitar, and what amp/effects are used, but I'd just like to know a general guideline. For example, A strat for BTO, Gibson for LZ ect.

The list:
Led Zeppelin - I cant quit you baby
Pink Floyd - Shine on you crazy diamond
Neil Young - Rocking in the free world
BTO - You aint seen nothing yet
All songs by Aerosmith
All songs by The Black Keys

Ps. I don't have one yet, it is just a random curiosity question.

The amp is more important than the guitar, but look into what all of them use.
An HSS strat should be able to cover all of the above well though.

Led Zeppelin - I cant quit you baby [Telecaster]
Pink Floyd - Shine on you crazy diamond Strat]
Neil Young - Rocking in the free world [Strat]
BTO - You aint seen nothing yet [SG]
All songs by Aerosmith [Les Paul, Strat, whatever]
All songs by The Black Keys [Any guitar with P90's or Filtertrons or Single coils]

^What I would use, had I owned those guitars.

But if this is some kind of strange 'What guitar' thread, then yeah, a Squier CV or MIM Fender HSS Strat would be good, depending on budget. A tele would probably work well, too.

Depends on what your budget is. I would suggest something at least a little better than the Affinity Squier series. Nothing wrongs with Squiers though, i have the tele custom 2 and its great.

It's all in your fingers. But you will only hear this after you have spent a shit ton of money on gear and a shit ton of time on playing, so just buy whatever feels good because if you feel good with your instrument you will play more and thus play these songs better.

Before anyone can make recommendations we really do need a price point.

That fender starter pack you linked to might not be the best choice.

The affinity strat is pretty low end and frankly they don't play or sound all that good. You could easily get discouraged by the short comings of that starter pack. I'm not trying to be overly blunt but that amp is total rubbish and you'll never get decent tone from it.

I honestly think you would be disappointed by the lack of tone. That guitar and amp will produce.

You would be far better off getting this guitar and amp setup.

Guitar Jackson JS23

Amp Vox VT20+
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/vox-valvetronix-vt20-20w-1x8-guitar-combo-amp

Those would be my choices for a good starter setup.

You will spend a little more for the Jackson and VT20+, I personally consider it to be the best starter amp on the market.

The advantage of that Vox modeling (VT20+) amp is that you can get pretty decent tone from a VT20+.

I'm not going to lie Vox VT+ amps do have a learning curve. However that learning curve is actually fun. Learning which amp models and effects give you the tone you want.

Once you find a tone you like you can save it...

Edit: You will be dealing with personal preferences when you start a what guitar thread. Take a look at my gear. Case in point I recommended the baby brothers of what I use.

Just the guitar alone? It's your whole rig, not just the guitar.

A billion opinions and no actual answer there. This is why we don't allow "Best" threads, it turns into a million posts with no actual content or discussion.
