Sounds like you have it plugged in the stereo input, use the mono input on the cab. Make sure (if there is a switch on the cab) that it's set to mono.

are you using the mono input? Just checking you're using it correctly and it's not faulty. if there's somethign wrong obviously that's a more involved fix, depending on what exactly is wrong.

I saw in a couple of pictures that on Bucketheads Les Paul (only some pictures) that his neck pickup is painted in white. Can anyone explain to me why he would do this, and if there are any pros and cons.

The guy wears a KFC Bucket and a white mask during performances, and you're interested in the color of his pickup covers?

probably not. the newer marshall cabs have mono/stereo switches but the older 800 ones may not

if it only has the one input jack then it sounds like something is wrong it could be something simple like a bad connection or cold solder joint or something like that or it could be a bad speaker, or...

it could be any number of things, really. it's kinda getting beyond my pay grade, lol.

when you pop the cab open look for loose connections/wires on the jack plate and the speakers.

look at the wiring, it should look like this

if if doesn't look like that then maybe someone screwed with the wiring. rewire the 4x12 to look like that (or an equivalent series-parallel wiring).

then you can test a speaker with a 9V battery to see if it's dead.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIMHGkxw72o

i do that test with just the battery and have never used an adapter from radio shack. i just stick the two sides right on the terminal and the speaker makes a pop.

if the speaker doesn't pop then it may need a recone or a little solder. most likely you'll be sending to some speaker repair place or just getting a new speaker

if the speakers work then it check all the connections with a mult meter and see if you can find a break and then rewire the cab, just takes some speaker wire and crimp spade connector (strippers and pliers help too). if you have a little solder and a soldering pencil already then all you'd need is a little speaker wire.
punk isn't dead, it's always smelled that way.

^ good news that it's not something serious

I'll leave you in gumbi's capable hands as he knows more about the ins-and-outs of speaker wiring than i do
