I really dont understand Why we get an episode 7. Instead of a knights of the old republic.

Because then we would have Episode Negative XII. There would have to be so many prequels. And I don't think the KotoR/Revan twist would work as well in a movie as it did in game.

Star Wars opening weekend (directed by Lucas) - Limited Opening Weekend: $1,554,475
Wide Opening Weekend: $6,806,951

The Empire Strikes Back (directed by Irvin Kershner) - Limited Opening Weekend: $4,910,483
Wide Opening Weekend: $10,840,307

Return of the Jedi (directed by Richard Marquand) - Opening Weekend: $23,019,618

Before you say anything, I didn't compare the numbers of the prequels because they happened many years later, so there's additional hype that factors in.

Wouldn't that have more to do with Star Wars becoming such a hit. It's not really a surprise that Ep IV didn't get anywhere near as much as V & VI on it's opening weekend. Nobody would have known how amazing Star Wars was back then.

Another movie about a relatively unknown time. Like Bane. Or the original grey/dark jedi that were exiled to korriban.

Or the 1000 years of peace. We could just have a montage of Yoda sitting in the Jedi Council chairs in various postures.

Yes, but the fact is, those kind of ideas work better in books or games.

Dude... it's called Episode VII. It's not a remake/reboot.

That's the most pretentiously dickish post I've ever seen. And coming from the Pit, that says quite a lot.

Well done.

It's just compared to other mass appeal, sci fi films it doesn't hold up when compared to ET for example. That's a film for kids that was more thematically interesting and on the whole a better film (in my opinion, obviously).

I don't have anything against George Lucas, american graffiti is a good film. I just don't care for star wars and stated that.

Just because you didn't like the SW films, it doesn't mean that ET is better.

As far as being more thematically interesting...yeah, no. Not in my opinion.

It absolutely would.

My point was that it wasn't the director, but more the hype surrounding the movies that made them box office hits.

I dunno, I was at work one day and it wasn't busy ad they were doing a Star Wars marathon, so I watched the last two prequels so they're still fresh in my mind. Dialogue is poor, acting isn't that great either, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't entertained by watching them. They're aesthetically really pretty to watch, too. Some of the landscapes they created are like works of art.

I consider Lost one of the best shows ever, especially the last season and conclusion. If you think about it, it was pretty much Star Wars anyway. The Island = The Force, and Hurley = Luke Skywalker. Or something. I know JJ's not writing it, but it should give him some good insight.

The prequels weren't that bad.

agreed, but they're still classics.

its funny though, they're really on-par for cheesy-ness with Avatar and everybody hates that...

I can't decide who the worst OP is. I'm stuck between OP, Trebor, and Madcap.

Eh, in the end they are all terrible OPs.

(Agree about Lost though.)

Why is JJ Abrams so famous and well respected? It's not like he's directed any masterpieces, Star Trek was pretty decent but his other films are pretty shitty

A little while ago there was a rumor that Zack Snyder was doing a Star Wars film that wasn't an Episode. Unfortunately this turned out untrue.

So I just watched the prequels for the first time last night (didn't want to start a new thread to say it)... and I loved II and III. There is no defense for episode I, and I will never show it to my future children, except maybe for the awesome Darth Maul fight... but II and III were awesome and having the back story is actually making the originals more enjoyable right now.

Fight me.

Years ago I would have shouted SACRILAGE, but after seeing the last 3 Star Wars. I wonder if George Lucas has a clue anymore. Too rich for too long.

Other than McGregor, the rest of the cast is shameful.
