Hello There

Okay, so I recently got a Synyster Custom S guitar (exactly like the one Synyster Gates from Avenged Sevenfold plays) but when I turn the machine heads the note does not change. I can't even tune it so that its in standard, it just will not change, and I cannot tell if it is making the string go tight or loose because the string doesn't go slack (which caused me to accidentally snap one of the strings which I now have to replace).
I'm thinking that the problem is to do with the little bridge looking thing holding the strings just below the headstock, which looks like this (the part closest to the bottom):

Please help me. I have no idea how to fix the problem.
Thanks.

you gotta unscrew the screws in the nut, that is the thing separating the headstock from the fretboard

On the come up we were listening to Grateful Dead and the music started passing through my bowel and out my arsehole as this violet stream of light. I shat music. It was beautiful.

What you need to do is cube the floyd by drilling a block of wood on to the headstock. Adds loads extra tuning stability
#6
The best solution would be to wrap the strings around the horns at the top of the head, and then feed them back into the tuning pegs.

Seriously though, I am surprised you paid that much for a guitar without knowing what a locking nut is.

Maybe it's because you got a Synyster Gates sig guitar. Avenged Sevenfold sucks brah, and Synyster sucks toad dick.

You have the sustainiac model and you can't tune a Floyd Rose? Just give me your guitar. I know how to tune it.

In the behind the scenes of Avenged recording their City of Evil album, Synyster breaks a string and simply buys a new guitar because he can't be ****ed re-stringing/re-tuning it. They're that bad. Look and sound brilliant though.

*post about me taking the piss at the guitar in OP*

In all seriousness, it's the nuts. You need to loosen them with an Allen wrench and THEN you can tune. This is to prevent DE-tuning when you use the whammy bar.

TS, you need one of these:

Tuner mayo brah.

Yeah, you really should have done your research before buying a guitar like that.

You have to unscrew those screws at the bottom of the picture which hold the strings in place. Even if you don't know about Floyd Rose hardware, it's just common sense. Just look and see what could be happening as to why it isn't changing tuning. And The Pit isn't a place for this topic.

You have much to learn.

I don't even understand how that can happen, even if you do not understand what a locking nut does then surely you would figure it out what is happening before tightening the peg so much that it actually snaps the top part of the string off...

Go read on the internet how a floyd rose works, that's your problem.
#26
like that guy said, google how to tune a floyd rose.

in the mean time, I'll still probably be laughing until you get back.

Why buy such an expensive guitar when you don't understand the basics -_-
#28
You can only tune it to drop C. Or another joke that's funnier.

OP, return the ****ing guitar. Now. It's not worth the trouble. You can do better for the money.
And I actually made the Jackie Chan "wtf" face when I read this.

This.

Also, loosen the nuts up by the headstock; they should NOT be holding the string down. Make them just tight enough to rest gently on top of the strings. That way, you can use the tuning pegs. It also adds to tuning stability.

Because he clearly worships AX7 for some dumb reason.

Edit:
You'd also better check out this thread, which is what you should have done before even buying a guitar with FR.

Does it work if you try to whammy without the whammy bar?

Why would you dump a grand on a guitar that you can't figure out how to tune? I wish I had gobs of money I could throw at things that I didn't know how they worked. Stupid having children.

So...if you love AX7 and consider them totally br00talz (like our TS), then tuning to drop C would make you...more br00tal than AX7!!!

Edit:
Note for TS: Drop tuning a FR is NOT recommended, unless maybe you got a guitar tech (try your local music store) to set it up for you properly. FR's are set up to be in standard tuning in the factory. They'll need to re-set up for any other tunings.
