Whenever I switch over from my bridge pickup to my neck pickup it sounds way too smooth. I can have the tone on 10 and it sounds like it's completely rolled off. I'm no expert on how guitars work, but my guess would be the tone pot. It's a 2008 gibson les paul studio. Thanks.

are you sure that's not just what it sounds like? neck pickups will be smoother. granted there could easily be something wrong, too.

No it definitely sounds off. I have the tone on full, and it sounds smoother than the November Rain solo for lack of a better term. With it rolled of it gives a buzzy sort of tone.

ah ok.

i guess take the backplate off and see if anything looks obviously amiss, like a loose wire or something like that.

i guess you could go over the soldering to make sure there aren't any dry joints or anything like that.

i'm sure there are easy ways to check your pots are working right with a multimeter, but that's kinda getting beyond my pay grade, lol.

Check your pot and cap values. You can try experimenting to get the tone you're after.

^ that's a good point. most of the gibson USAs use 300k volume pots, and generally you should use 500k. I've never actually tried swapping them myself, so I'm not sure exactly how much difference they make, but they are meant to make some difference. the pickups should be brighter with proper 500k pots (assuming yours has 300k).
