I haven't talked to Ashleigh in years. I've lost all contact with her. I came clean with her over my feelings (because i knew i would never go out with a girl like her, way out of my league), she said to me that she was genuinely touched, and that she was really thankful that things had got better since the last time we met. She said that she liked me, that i was a really sweet guy and that my heart is in the right place.

She even said that she wanted to help me get through my unrequited love for her, but i declined because i knew that i could never get over her if we kept in contact. She said to me that she wishes me the best of luck with everything, and that if i ever needed her for anything as a friend, to just ask.

I chose to cut all contact from her at that point. I haven't spoken to her since. This all happened 2 years ago. If she wants me to be happy, than that's exactly what i'll try to be.
Damn, what a sweet girl :3

I've fallen in love with people at very short notice, but not at first sight.

I was young, i was regularly bullied and every girl in the school hated me. I fell in love with this one girl in such short notice because she did something for me that no other girl ever did in my whole life; she saw me for who i was, she treated me like a perfectly normal human being, which was something no girl had ever done for me before. So after talking for only a couple of hours, i was already madly in love with her. Very intelligent and sweet. She was a stunner too.

She cared about me when nobody else would. I still love her to this day.

I saw a girl that really caught my attention in one of my classes last week, more so than any other girl in a while. Normally I can say that I find a girl incredibly attractive, but rarely I get to see a girl that left me thinking of her after having seen her for the first time. I'm not saying it's love, because it's not, but she's definitely more interesting to me than many of the girls I've seen in a while.
#46
No. I believe in lust at first sight.

What you call love at first sight is mostly desire, as I believe love is only attainable when you learn to know someone very well.

Obviously not.

You can fancy someone at first sight, but "love" requires a lot more than just looks/physical attraction.

Anyone who chose "truth" is a muppet.

No because I don't love someone purely because of their appearance. it's impossible to feel more than physical attraction by just looking at someone.

Whom you have no associations with related their appearance. If you looked at someone you love, you'd probably still feel love for their appearance even if that was not what caused the love in the first place.

I wonder if this might be a path to love at first sight in a way as well; seeing someone who looks like someone you already have strong love for and projecting some of that emotion onto this person (man sees identical twin of deceased wife for first time). Since the Pit is filled with professional psychologists with an IQ of 140+, I'm sure someone can provide an answer

Not to claim that "love at first sight" is anything but ridiculous, but being attracted to someone without having spoken to them or just by seeing them doesn't have to be merely a matter of their physical attractiveness.

You can be told a lot about someone character by what they're doing, how they hold themselves, what they wear or how they present themselves, how they're reacting to others... etc etc.

Seeing someone dressed up in very bright avant-garde clothing shouting aggressively at someone tells you more about them than simply their physical appearance. Similarly seeing someone dressed in quite subdued plain clothing, walking nervously and quietly down the street will tell you something about them beyond just their physical appearance.

Of course such inferences might be wrong or might not tell you everything about someone, but first sight of someone can tell you of characteristics of their personality you might find attractive too, not just physical attractiveness.

I'm thinking it takes more of a connection than just appearances to truly be in love.
But hey, it works out for some people.... I think.

Obviously fiction. Best to not confuse infatuation with love.
The content of this signature is pretty much irrelevant

Fiction

Only because it hasn't happened to me yet
So I have yet to have any reason to believe in it
#56
There's been rare times where I've become instantly infatuated with a girl but not fallen in love with them. Sounds a bit silly.

Love is crap anyway. I prefer as much detatchment as possible.
On playing the Paul Gilbert signature at the guitar store extensively, my missus sighed:
"Put it down now, It's like you love that guitar more than me!"
In Which I replied.
"Well it has got two F-Holes!"
#57
I wouldn't say it's impossible, but it is probably a very very rare occurance. I feel like this would be something more likely to happen to only one of the people involved, and one that has had alot of issues with love in their life. For some reason I'd like to believe this could mutually happen between two people, but that seems even less likely....by a long shot.
#58
i believe in "**** at first sight", and that's about it. loving someone only happens after you get to know them and if you have things in common.
#59
Probably not, no. I don't know how far I've been in love yet (I'd say several times, at least to the degree I could be in love at those ages), but it's never been at first sight.
#60
I put yes, because I had this with my better half. In da club, well actually outside in the smoking area (I quit last year, feels good man) Just kinda made eye contact and then she made this smile... I just instantly got this feeling I couldn't describe. Like I just HAD to talk to this girl. Approaching total strangers isn't something I usually do at all, I tend to go by friends of friends, but this just felt different. Love is my best approximation.

Still going strong and getting better nearly three years later.

Being drunk would probably be my first explanation there.

Indeed, however seeing as its your first sight of said person, one would assume that you're never seen them before

Well there are a lot of theories that we are attracted to people who look similar to us or our parent of the opposite gender, so I wouldn't be too surprised

Indeed. Yet even so I don't think it's possible to feel more than lust at first. For me, bearing/how they hold themselves is all part and parcel of physical attractiveness.

Yeah, I was contemplating mentioning ol' Oedipus, but didn't feel it was necessary.

As for your first point, it was just me being a bit pedantic in order to set the scene for my main point. I realised that you probably didn't mean it in a universal sense

I don't believe that you can remain friends with someone you love, but then again what do I know.

lol...all above board and legal!

Only plot twist I can think of is that I hadn't QUITE broke things off with my manipulative, controlling partner at the time...and neither had she

But thanks man, we're very happy

Yes, totally edgy because I expressed what I'd do according to my own personal experiences and believing that you might not feel the same way

Also you're spending way too much time in this thread, don't you have a stuffed pony to hump or what
