Hey,

Since it's tax time I figured I'd pick up something new.
I've had my eye on this Agile
http://www.rondomusic.com/septor827mncpblueflame.html

I just want to know if there is a better 8 string I could buy in the $400-$600 range.
Something that I could upgrade over time is ideal for me.

I mainly play math-rock if that matters.

That should be fine. There's also the Ibanez RG8.

Ibanez has a new 8 string that might come close to your top end budget. The Ibanez S8.

I like a lot of ugly guitars and that S8 is just awful.

I was able to snag my Schecter Damnien-Elite 8 for $400 new (Normally $630). Comes with EMG 808's. It works for my needs, although its only a 26.5 scale so the lowest string is kinda flubby.

I had a Septor 828 natural, the thing was SOLID. Though, I do advise, unless you have massive hands you're not gonna enjoy playing it since it's nearly 28" scale.

I just got the Ibanez RGA8 for about $600. Its not a bad guitar but if you plan on buying it, you have to factor in replacing the pickups because they are absolute shit.

Ibanez S5470F

It's way over your budget, but there is the Jackson DKA8. Comes with D activators and a killswitch. A guitar you might want to consider as an upgrade if you get sick of cheaper guitars.

I think it's supposed to be around $1000, but I could be wrong...

In the same price range, Carvin has their own 8 as well.

Let's not get carried away! From an Agile, to a Jackson DKA8, to an $1100 Carvin that can potentially turn into a $2100 Carvin.

I know what the link says, but actually it's under $1k...and that's a price increase of $100 from late last year. Carvin always lists their prices like that.

And, FWIW, I only posted that because of the ibanez- on a budget under $600, I'd probably go with an Agile myself.
