I've always enjoyed the sport, just never got around to actually watching it apart from the World Cup. I'd like to change that, and I know UG has plenty of football aficionados.

So... what do? I don't have a clue where to begin.

If it means anything, I'm in Canada.

Have a look in the Club Football Thread. Get past the arguments, there's some good discussion about it, and plenty of people who'd be happy to answer any questions about it.

Just find a little could and push him on the ground. Then you just have to watch him laying down and crying for half an hour. That is essentially watching soccer in a nutshell.

Just watch hockey, American football, jai alai, curling, or korfball instead.

One that's claret. But my second point is a serious one. I learned all about European football leagues through FM, and once you know about the players, following it becomes a piece of cake.

Here's my story. I went to Italy with my school. We were watching a Serie A game on TV. We were betting on who would win. We really got into it. We returned to America and I continued watching football. My dad's family is from Catania, so naturally, I'm a fan of their team (hence the sig). My friend's family is from Palermo. He watches it too. Palermo and Catania are rival teams. Catania is in 7th. Palermo is in 19th. I call him up and laugh at him every time Palermo gets spanked. I enjoy it. The End

step a)

fall down

step b)

grab ankle and/or head. no arms.

step c)

roll back and forth.

helpful tips: it's like stop drop and roll, but instead of being on fire you're just really gay and you touch yourself more

it might also help to watch a premier league game at a local pub. bit crazy, but give it a shot.

I'll definitely check it out then. Kind of similar to how I learned about the NHL, I just played NHL 98 constantly on the N64 and learned the players.

This is what I've been doing, along with playing FIFA. Helped me learn a lot, football manager is definitely a lot more fun if you're into simulations/management games.

ESPN3 (free stream) shows an English Premier League game every week. I watch that and I played Fifa to learn who the players are.

Considering the sport, you might want to start with the purchase of a pink hangbag so you atleast look the part.

1. Go to TV
2. Sit your ass down
3. Turn on TV
4. Channel surf to a football match
5. Watch said match

Following these 5 easy steps, anyone can start watching football. Remember, the more you watch football, the better you will be at watching football. Practise watching football atleast 15 minutes a day to build up your stamina and one day, you could become the greatest football watcher of all time!

Well the first thing you should do is stop calling it soccer.
The second thing you should do is not bother watching it because it's boring and there are much better things you could do with your time.

Like playing Football Manager or FIFA. Or playing football.

Or watching more of it.

Hope the first full match you watch is the 2005 Champions league final.

So much this. The second semi-final between PSV and Milan of that year's CL is also very noteworthy.

Depending where you are in Canada, see if you get MLS on tv. There are currently teams in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.

The quality of play isn't going to be the same as Premier League or La Liga, but it's not as bad as people will try to tell you it is. Since it's probably the most accessible to you, give it a shot. Go to a match if you can. It's a lot of fun.

Buy FM or FIFA. Watch a few matches in whatever league you want really (you could mainly get Premier League ones through streams). Maybe after few matches try find a particular team to like.
