I'm GASing for one of those, but i'm not entirely sure if it'd actually benefit me in any practical way.

I think it would be better if you could switch out the 2nd gain stage using the footswitch. i like the crunchy tones you get by using gain 1 and turning gain 2 all the way down. turning gain 2 up seems to round it off nicely for smooth lead tones. it would be awesome of that was switchable, imo.

having said that, similar effects can probably be achieved by running a compressor in the FX loop.
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.
#124
Yea I think it's achievable. Although I'm not sure that I would use it like that.

I really think the overdrive is great for rock tones. It's one of the only Fenders I've heard that have that sound.

It's really a cool amp.

Ok, I got it.

The clean is awesome. Light and dark clean channels with one gain channel. Gain 1 seems to be the main overdrive, while gain 2 adds some definition to it. It doesn't add volume, I'm not 100% sure what it's about as yet. Gotta play around with it.

The reverb is excellent.

It just looks so nice too.

Yea its pretty cool. I've worked out that you add gain 2 to turn it into a higher gain with more compression. Gain 1 is pretty much a crunch at lower settings as Blomp said.

FWIW, those interested in the "retro-classic" rock artists like Band of Skulls or Rival Sons might also want to give Raphael Saadiq, The Heavy, Davy Knowles, Gary Clark, Jr. and Alabama Shakes a listen.

And if you want to listen to an authentic old school musician still laying down some cool stuff, Dr. John's latest album, Locked Down is one of his finest in ages. His rhythm section...*whew*

I'll definitely check them all out, thanks man.

I got my e-bow today. I think it's really cool. A bit tricky to use multiple strings with it but I think I'll get used to it. It makes everything sound really pretty, almost Asian, like a martial arts film.

Enjoy the Ebow. I've had mine for five years or so and have used it numerous times live. Crank the reverb, utilize that volume pedal, and prepare for ambient bliss. Neat little things, and it beats carrying a bow and rosin around (even if it doesn't look as cool).

Yea lol. I've been messing around with them all day.

My Supersonic - when I play my Strat, which has Lace Golds in it now, the G and B sound like they have a kind of buzz higher down the fretboard, I took it to the shop and he said there's no buzz, and I couldn't hear it without distortion. I also can't hear it when I use a fuzz. Only when I use that amp on the gain channel, and I can't hear it on my Tele and can't try the others cos they're in the shop getting set up.

I can't hear it on the clean channels, or if it's on max gain with the volume rolled off a bit. I can't hear it on my other amps.

It's like a vibration or a buzzing and sometimes it sounds a bit fuzzy, and not the good kind, but it's only really the G and B. But the tech said it's fine but still raised the action. It happens on all the pickup settings. I'm thinking that there's some dodgy wires in the pickguard, or the amp doesn't like the pickups or, it's the amp.

Any thoughts?

The only amp I own is a 40w Fender HRD 1x12 Combo. I'd like to have a nice Orange combo amp for metal.

I've considered other amps- Vox, Carvin, and some boutique amps- but nothing quite rising to the level of true GAS...

I'd like a Godin LGXT.
A Marshall Bluesbreakers RI.

I got my vintage Strat, albeit in the form of a RI, but whatever, it's awesome.

I do wonder if it's worth getting the Marshall as it would replace the Supersonic. Both are similarly priced, both reissues essentially. I'd expect them to sound unique, but not necessarily better than either one.

One to lookout for and try rather than buy off the back of YouTube videos.

Danny, what amps do you use? I don't think I've heard you talk about your amps!

Danny, what amps do you use? I don't think I've heard you talk about your amps!

Up until a week ago, I only had one, a 40w Fender HRD Combo.

As of last week, I added one of those itty-bitty amps to my gear collection- a 3w Orange Micro-Crush Pix. I bought that mainly as a toy, really.

Soooo...I guess I have 1.1 amps now.

I bought the Fender because I wanted the puret cleans I could get, with the intent to shape it with all my damn pedals. Works pretty well...

Except it doesn't do the heaviest tones I want; it doesn't quiiiiiiite get there. Which is why I've been looking at getting an Orange- a real, TUBE Orange, not the Pix I got recently. I started looking at the heavier bands I liked, and saw Mesas, Oranges and whatnot...but my recent infatuation with Boris and seeing demos of the Tiny Terror, Rockerverb and Thunderverb settled it.

Of course, since I don't gig, it will be almost a pure waste of money. My HRD already sits around, never getting above 4- don't want to scare the doggies or tick off the neighbors. I can't imagine that an Orange will fare any better.

...but, in my mind, I'll know what I could unleash.

Beyond that? I occasionally look at the boutique amps that are out there, costing $3000 for a small combo, like the Komet 19. They sound great. But I'd REALLY have to stop buying guitars for a while.

I also sometimes think about downsizing my HRD to a smaller Fender, or maybe a Carvin or Vox tube combo.
