I realized that because of my early graduation, I won't be going to prom and therefore haven't been to a single school dance. Unsure how I feel about this. Poll.

Edit: Dang it, meant to make poll public and not have more than one vote.

Didn't enjoy mine. Despite being there with my girlfriend. (Now ex.) But I hated most of my school and didn't really get along very well with many people. Not that I was alone but that I just accepted that they were rather uninteresting and I let it be like that.

Proms and stuff are so damn overrated. You're not missing out on much really. Brilliant time to get stupidly drunk one last time and then never see these people again if you hate them.

Same here. Dunno if they have them now in England but they certainly didn't have them when I was at school.

I think they do have them now over here but if I could I probably wouldn't go to it

I went to my ex gf's one. She was a year above me.

Then next year when it was supposed to be my one I went to Download Festival instead.

Proms are for preppy student president types. The after parties are good though, go to those.

Had one. Didn't go to it.

But I did go to I think it was 3 mandatory Military Balls back when I was in ROTC. It was literally mandatory. It counted as 70% of our final grade. Didn't care much for that. I only enjoyed it because I was in the saber guard and I got to swing a sword around. Ahhh swinging a sword around. Those were the days.

Not exacty a prom, but it counts as a dance too.

Yeah ours was a "Presentation Ball" and it was alright.
Got righteously ****ed up afterwards
#13
Nope, because proms are silly. What are you, twelve?

Prom was alright.

The "Sixth Form Summer Ball" on the other hand, was fricking hilarious. We got hammered with all the teachers and then went to a strip club.

I did, and I had fun, but I wasn't the popular guy in school so it wasn't fantastic or anything. Strange thinking back to a time when I didn't drink.

Went to one at a different school (female reasons). Didn't go to mine and instead extended the after-party into pre and during party so it was basically just a aparty.

I never went to my school's. Probably should've, alcohol would've been involved.

Yeah, I went twice. Once when I was a senior in high school, and then the year after when my (ex)girlfriend was a senior.

It was alright. I certainly wouldn't have regretted not going. Had I not had a girlfriend at the time, I doubt I would have bothered going.

Ah, so you were that guy.

You see, in your mind you think you look cool. In reality, everyone thinks you look like a knob.

Pretty decent point and sounds reasonable too, anyway past is past. Just look for the future concerns.
#23
I went, and in some ways it was great because friends and all that, but when a bottle of cheap lager is £4 you cant get wasted.
This meant that I had to try and dance sober-this did not work :P

However, we went out in town after-and that was fun

I went to it, I didn't want to go, but had to since parents were sponsoring it and mine convinced me to go since they had to pay for it as well.

You're not missing anything, I didn't have particularly "I hate them all"-mentality, I went along with my class rather well. Unless you need a socially-acceptable reason to be drunk, don't go.
#29
men don't like to dance or go to proms we do it cause we want to have sex only reason we dance

And the pit yet again proves what a bunch of losers it is.

I went to my prom, was fun.

Yeah, in NI they're called formals.... and there are alot of preformals to raise money for the big night. Our preformals were in rented rooms in bar's and clubs, then the main one was at a hotel with limos n food n afterparty and then breakfast for those who were hardcore.

I went to 4 formals with various bitchez and many preformals and each time the amount of drink consumed became greater and greater.
#32
My prom was terrible. It was at some really posh golf club (Mere, for anyone in Manchester), and all the food was posh and it was £10 FOR A DAMN PINT so we couldn't even drink the shitness away. I went with my girlfriend of the time who I'd been with for a while so it wasn't even like a date sort of thing either, we just spent most of the time kind of whinging about it together like the edgy people we were.
#33
Yes. It was done at short notice before proms became a 'thing' here, when the teachers realised we only had a few weeks left together. It was so dead. Every one was too cool to dance or too nervous to pair up. All the established couples went round the back of the building to make out. Everyone else kept sneaking outside to drink red bull and goof around all night. Our music teaching assistant/drum tech guy slipped us a bottle of JD towards the end of the night because he was cool like that.

I had an early dance that I can only really recall that there was dancing and some really fit girl basically dragged me out of my nerd discussion group (I think we were arguing about Bruce Lee, to avoid the girls) and shoved my hands on her arse and showed me how to slow-dance.
O.K.

Went to every school party, but since I usually ended up spending most of those evenings outside the actual building I figured why bother dressing up for a prom. So I went sporting the usual "looking any more casual would be a federal crime"-look, wasn't allowed to enter

But then half the school showed up in regular clothes and when they finally decided to ditch the dress code-thing the actual party was already taking place outside. Within an hour or 2 the police dropped by and they just shut the whole thing down. In the end we just went to some guy's house which was way too small for this event, but it was hella fun nonetheless

I'm a senior in high school now, I went last year and contemplating going this year. Prom, well for me was really over rated. The best part was being with my girlfriend. I don't know about you guys, but it was like $40 for 2 tickets, $30ish for the flowers, like $40 for the meal and most guys rent a tux which is like $90+ for the night. I'd say it's a pretty big money pit. A lot of guys spend more than that hopping to get laid after prom; so they spend tons of extra money to make one of the cheesiest nights in high school special and most of the girls don't put out. Well, that's supposedly how it works around here.

tl;dr - waste of money to dance to bad music, alot of guys try to use it to get laid and fail. You didn't miss much at all.

My Y11 prom wasn't anything special. The afterparty, however, was excellent. The host's dad even bought all of the booze for us to drink in the garden of his mansion.

Actually, in retrospect I feel kinda bad for those who did bother dressing up, preparing snacks, etc.

I mean, I bet there's people who look forward to their prom for many years in advance. Imagine going through that agonizing buildup to the moment where you finally gather the courage to ask out that girl you've always liked. She says yes

You then spend weeks preparing for that supposedly magical evening where you hope to finally turn things around and give those bitter years of social torture people call high school a sweet aftertaste by finally making it past second base (thank you Hollywood and MTV!). You actually find a nice suit that fits, take up dance lessons and just when you decide to settle for your dad's sedan your uncle suggests you take his Porsche. Who knows, maybe life won't be so sh*tty from now on

...and then some pricks ruin your evening and with it the dream of a less bleak future

I bet that's how Robert Smith's career started

Went to mine, which was called Cotillion, and it sucked. It was mandatory and our dates were assigned to us, i.e. we didn't pick them. It was awful, and all the really prick teachers showed up and made sure nothing, and I mean nothing, happened. Oh yeah, I had to pay for it, even though the school forced everyone to go. Gotta do it again this year for the last time. Yeah, my high school sucks.
