I'm learning Pool Shark by Sublime and I had a question that has come up in other songs for with an F chord, and I cant in all good consciousness proceed until I know what this means.

I see the

F

and

Gb

chord are the same, only the tab indicates a bar over the first fret and while F says (1 fr) and Gb says (2fr). I'm assuming that means 1 fret and 2 frets, but what does that mean exactly?

Sorry for the noob question, still very much a beginner for all intents and purposes. I figure rather than googling these kind of questions its better to actively engage with other musicians.

It's just what fret you're on. Once you learn the notes of the fretboard, you won't really need to worry about that too much.

Junior's usually at least a little terse, but he knows his stuff. I've always read his posts in a grouchy grandfather voice, a grouchy grandfather with a huge stiffy for alternate picking.
Besides that, he's right this time. As usual.
