I decided that for the album I am working on, I needed something a bit more on the Marshally side of things. I had no interest in paying for a JCM800, so I opted for something on the cheap (real cheap) side.

This:

I can't get over this amp's low end, it has this awesome growl reminiscent of the Krank Chadwick I had. This is definitely what I needed, a very thick, nasty kind of tone, I like running it full tilt on the preamp gain with just a hint of power tube breakup. It is pretty much exactly what I think of when I think "Brit tone," but definitely a little bit more full in the low end.

Not a whole lot of features to comment on, the EQ knobs can be pulled out to boost the frequencies, though the only one that is really usable for me is the middle knob, the bass pulled out is ridiculously bassy, though I imagine this makes it a pretty suitable bass amp if need be. Ultimately, I am pretty happy with it, simple and to the point. I have also replaced the missing knob in the picture, too lazy to retake a picture though

Thanks for looking guys

Thanks

Rob, this one was a bit pricey at $350, but it had a fresh retubed and except for the missing knob it was pretty much perfect condition, little dusty. I have to say, it definitely seems like your type of amp.

$350 is not bad, Bugeras go second hand for more than that

But the fact it had some new tubes is really nice. Congrats

I saw in a couple of pictures that on Bucketheads Les Paul (only some pictures) that his neck pickup is painted in white. Can anyone explain to me why he would do this, and if there are any pros and cons.

Thanks guys, hopefully I will be getting a decent 212 soon to put under this mug. The shell is so damn long, I am probably going to have to go with a 1936. Any reason not to?

i don't think so. from what i've heard, marshall has gone back to plywood for the 2x12s for the past ~18 months or so (IIRC), so if you're getting one, try to get a newer one i guess? you could email marshall to be sure of exactly when they changed back.

When did they start using MDF? I will have to get a used one, but if I can get it old enough it shouldn't be a problem right?

ages ago, i think. like the 80s. don't quote me on that, though.

^^ from my limited experience with it, i think ply sounds way better.

Now are those just the baffles or the whole cab? I like ply as well, but the most important thing for me is speakers and price, which is really where marshall wins

Eh, it sounds bad but I really wanted something to fit under the Laney, and I know a vertical won't ultimately I know it isn't what is important, but I like my rig to look good y'know?

Otherwise I would just keep my Mesa 112 and be happy.

Yeah that's a negatory. Link? For whatever reason their site is not playing nice with my computer right now. I might be able to convince them to let off it.

That's the thing, it won't let me go to the regular used section of the site right now, so I can't use the search bar.

If I go to a subsection on the used gear tab I am fine, but I can't do it otherwise

i think the cab, but that was only second-hand information from someone else who emailed them on another forum (actually i think they took their own cab apart to find ply and then emailed marshall to see what was going on- more i can't remember for sure).

Bad news, the AOR was acting up yesterday. I was thinking of screwing with it, but I will probably just return it since I am still within my 30 days.

No doubt, but it is what is. when you buy stuff from GC used it is usually 50-50 that it is borked.
