Once you reach a certain age, it really doesn't matter as long as it's reasonable. For example, my aunt and uncle are ten years apart and nobody questions it. Would it be disgusting if he was 20 and she was 10? Yes, obviously, but the fact that he's 50 and she's 40 isn't really a big deal.

When you're under 25-30, I'd say the good ol' two-year rule is a good one to follow.

For me, it would almost always depend on the difference in years between the two individuals. If 17 and 19, I think that's okay, assuming that they're both relatively mature. One of my friends was 13 and ended up in an 18 month relationship with a 18 year old. She's mature, and as far as I'm aware has always been. Although I think it's ****ing weird on the guys part, I tend to think that if there's a genuine attraction/caring, then it's okay.

^ 13 and 18 is pretty damn creepy if you ask me.

One of my friends is 20, only a few weeks younger than me, and her boyfriend is 28.
Would that be weird? I sure as hell think so.

I tend to use the 0.5x + 7 rule as a guideline because there is a cut off for that too.

funny enough, i was just reading about statutory rape.

In the brilliant autumn of 1997, Dylan Healy was sentenced, first at the federal courthouse and the next day in state court, at Providence’s red-brick Licht Judicial Complex. The convict sat in flimsy leg shackles and prison orange, looking more stunned than repentant, while the clerk recited the convictions and penalties like a medieval Catholic litany, announcing each act of “felonious sexual assault with a minor,” along with each separate period of penance. Dylan received twelve to twenty-four years on sixteen state charges, including twelve counts of felonious sexual assault, plus two federal counts of crossing state lines to have sex with a minor-the Mann Act, passed in 1915, at the height of the white-slavery panic. After the reading of each count and its penalty, the judge asked the defendant to affirm that he understood.

He did understand-literally, at any rate. But the statement Dylan’s lawyer read for him spoke more of the tragedy of emotional ill health and immaturity than of criminal malice, more of misbegotten love than criminal misconduct. “I accept full responsibility," the statement began, insisting it was not meant “to excuse or minimize” Dylan’s crimes. But as he told of a childhood and youth plagued by unbearable shyness and loneliness, redeemed by a girl who “made me feel happier than I had ever felt [and] who brought joy into my life,” it did not appear that he understood or accepted the moral lesson his punishment was meant to teach. Indeed (a strategic misstep, taken against advice of counsel), Dylan seemed to be confessing that he’d do it all again. As the obstacles to their being together mounted, Dylan said, so did his obsession: “I loved her beyond reason and fled with the one I loved.”

Don't think so, how does that one work?

Basically what you do is divide your age by two and then add seven and that's the age you can socially acceptably date!

It's a super obscure rule and not very many people know it, so I wanted to make sure that people knew about it.

I'm 19. 2.5a+7 would be roughly 17. It's possible I would consider 16, but it would have to be an extreme exception. As for above, if you solve the formula the opposite way, you would get 24. This direction is more of a gray area for me. My sister's 27, so I feel like I can relate well to people her age, I just don't know if any 27 year olds would have any interest in a 19 year old.

over 18 for sure. Pedophilia is bad. Also, not more than a couple of years older than me. I'm 21 and I would prefer not to date someone significantly older than me.

So long as its not me, it's none of my business.

As long as they're not doing any funny stuff, or don't tell anyone about it, it's okay, I guess.

Again, none of my business.

i dont care much for others, but it varies.
say your 13 and the other is 17, i find it weird. however, if they're both over, say, 30 and there's a 10-year difference, i couldn't care less.
i on the other hand, only bother with girls my age, give or take a year.

Age doens't really bother me.

I was 15 and I was dating a 19 year old for a while.

I was 14 and was dating a 17 year old.

I always shot for the older ladies.

I'm now almost 18 and I'm now looking at the 15-16 year olds >.>

I can't help that they are attractive.

Age really doesn't bother me, it's all about maturity but I would never even consider someone under 15 (I'm 18). And even for 15 year olds, it probably has to be like 2.5 years younger and not a full on 3 years younger. That'd be a little weird.

I'm 19. According to the age rule I could go as low as 16.5 or as high as 24.

I wouldn't date anyone still in high school. The oldest I'd go is probably 24 and even that seems quite extreme to me.

Doesn't matter what the difference between the ages is, it's the ages themselves that count imo. Sure, an 80 year old dating a 20 year old is weird and gross, but it's not immoral. A 30 year old dating a 12 year old is, because it causes all sorts of psychological problems for the kid.

Although I find certain relationships distasteful when there's a large age gap (but they're both adults), that's just me being a judgmental arsehole.

It's really subjective imo... really depends on the person and whether they are at least legal or not to me. Most people seem alot more picky about it. One of my exes is about 3 years younger than me (19), and she was freaking psycho and super immature. Yet I worked with this girl who was in her class and the same age, she's dating a 30 year old plus she acted more mature than a few of our older coworkers who were over twice her age.

Personally, I wouldn't go more than 2 years younger unless I was sure she was mature enough for me. And legal..

I have a couple of married friends, where she's 23 and he's 31. I don't see that as an issue, because they're both near the same maturity level. However, they're also both adults who have graduated from college and worked for a bit out in the world.
