I can get a 100% mint marshall dsl201 for 500$. Would this amp give me good grunge/alternative and metal sounds? Never had the chance to play through one and probably won't so I figured I'd ask. I love the sounds of Marshall's and they seem pretty popular with those genres. Thanks.

Yes it will do those tones, but remember it is only 20 watts, so if your playing with a band you won't have much clean headroom.

Where did you find that? Those are quite the rare JCM2000 combos.

If I join a band it will give me a reason to buy a half stack lol I'm using this in my bedroom.

It will still get loud as hell even at 20 watts. throw a 1x12 cab under it, and you will be fine for giging if you are not using alot of cleans

Try for a 401. They sell for about the same amount of money or just slightly more. It would give you that extra bit of headroom.

See, it's important that people clarify when they say "metal", because I pretty much always assume they are a Cannibal Corpse fanboi.

I used one for post-grunge and it was fine. For metal they're a bit iffy, you need to really push them and then of course you run into the problem of background noise. Depends how you define 'metal', of course, and what the rest of your rig is like.
Yes, I know everything. No, I can't play worth a damn.

Unlike the heads, the combos aren't good choices for metal (unless you're talking very classic metal like Judas Priest etc.). Especially not at 20W. With rare exception, headroom = metal.
