ok so me and some friends are going to Detroit in june for the Orion festival. were going to be coming in from out of town, so we need to book a hotel to stay at, and since its in Detroit, Ideally we want to stay in some of the least sketchy parts. one of my friends is saying certain areas along the waterfront are ok, from what Ive read, the Belle Isle area is pretty safe too shuttles are running between the event location and the downtown area, but were not sure how safe the downtown area is either

I used to live there. Just stay anywhere above 10 mile and its safe. Downtown is not too bad, but the ghettos that surround downtown are really nasty. Don't go in those parts. You will get shot.

Fun fact: the murder rate in Detroit was 48.2 in 2011, making it the second highest city in the country and the 30th in the world that year.
There's no such thing; there never was. Where I am going you cannot follow me now.

Yikes.

Well I'd suggest camping way out in the boons so you don't get raped/robbed/killed/forced to do a naked harlem shake/swindled into buying crack and becoming an addict/killed.

Somewhere that isn't Detroit. It's a crap hole.

Depends how much you are looking to spend. And don't listen to the reviews, belle isle isn't the best place, so make sure you go with at least 4 people.

Greektown or Motor City Casino/Hotel combos would be awesome to stay at if you can afford it

Just keep in mind you can easily travel 15-20 minutes outside of the city and land in a nice and safe suburban area if you're able to organize transportation.

were actually driving down from the GTA area. we thought about staying in windsor but the logistics of it wont work out for getting from the hotel to the venue, and crossing the border multiple times in the same weekend

After listening to all the stereotypes, you'll see Detroit isn't that bad.

And then he'll get violent crimed and see that it's worse than that bad.

Then again, I suppose that it isn't Flint at least...
