Are you Zen?

What is Zen?

I like to think I am one with stuff when
'In the zone'

Zen

A life style?

A philosophy?

A utility practise, such as Yoga, but for the mind?

Zen.

Cool.

So, it's a sect?

Zen Buddhist?

Also, Feng Shui, is that Zen?

More or less.

Also, Feng Shui, is that Zen?

No, Feng Shui deals with Taoism which is a Chinese thang.

No, no I'm not zen at all.

I've never been able to get with the eastern concept of oneness. I'm far too influenced by absurdist philosophy (in b4 sartre is smartre joke).

I'd call myself optimistically cynical.

Me too. I loved that thing. That blue neon light was so cool.

I remember how I kept thinking those were buttons and kept pushing them as such. Tehe. Good times.

Imo, 'zen' is the state of mind when your brain is not overworking or underworking relative to the task it is applied to.

In other words there are no thoughts extraneous to the task you're performing, and effort becomes effortless. It's often found in (competent) martial artists, visual artists, writers, musicians and so on.

I think a lot of the religious/spiritual connotations should be dropped because it's simply a state of focus. This state of mind lies at the apex of skill on the part of the artist and the challenge of the task at hand.

More commonly experienced examples may be driving and slipping into 'autopilot', performing and/or practicing music, gaming, and becoming wholly immersed in a book or film.

That's all zen means to me.

My first MP3.

I had an earlier model of that, and it was ****ing awesome. Too bad it locked up and it has been close to impossible to get the music off of it, i would like to see how my music taste has evolved since i was 15/16.

Think of that next time you are not allowed to laugh.

This.

Got its start in China, but it's bigger in Japan and Korea. We call it Zen because it was introduced to the West by Japanese practitioners of it, and Zen is its Japanese name. It's Chan in China.
