Got my tax returns back and about 1200 I can spend on gear. I know I want a new strat because the one I've been playing for about 10 years is about to be used up

I'm thinking of getting either

An American Standard strat

Or getting a Mexican strat and a gibson melody maker what do you guys think I should go for

I'd go for the Mexi and the Gibson. Nothing wrong with having a backup guitar, plus you won't feel as bad about modifying them as you would an American Standard or a Gibson Standard Explorer, for example.
Ibanez TSA30 < Boss OS-2 < Custom Frankenstein Strat w/ scalloped board and Epi LP pickup

Have you tried the gibson. I've played les Pauls and didn't really like them all that much because of the feel of them. But at the same time I like the gibson sound for some things. Do you know if the neck is comfortable and if the body is a solid block or if it has some bevel or taper at all
