I just found out that it's been going on for 4 days now.
Anyone got any idea what is going on?

I can't find any info other than random news sites I've never heard of.

Seems like it's a similar case to the 2011 England riots.
But that got covered on the news.

A credible source would pull up somewhere and I have a lot of friends in BK that haven't said anything about it to me or on fb.

It's not a race thing. Many NYPD officers **** people over for pretty much no reason. My buddy was out from school one day. When He came back the next day, I asked him what happened. He told me that he got pulled over (in Brooklyn, coincidentally). The officer "smelled pot" and searched him+his car. He found a pocket knife in his glove compartment. Blade under 4 inches, and non locking. 100% legal to carry in NYC. the kid was 17 at the time and he spent the night in jail. They called it a "gravity knife" because the officer was able to whip it open with one hand, but only after opening it half way with two hands.
I hate sounding like one of those pieces of shit that go around saying how much they hate cops, but the NYPD has never helped me once in my life. Every time I needed them (massive drug and gun sales in my neighborhood, dog fights, brawls in the middle of the street, etc.), they send one police car over an hour later (after the criminals are gone). yet, when I was in 6th grade, 2 police officers come to my house and start interrogating me about lighting off a pack of bottle rockets the week before. They told me that I could face jail time and a ton of other shit. They also lied to me about how they "knew I bought more stuff, because it showed up on my mom's credit card bill" or some shit like that.
I know that there are some great police officers out there, I just wish that they worked in my neighborhood.

Hmm. There's a helicopter that's been circling around in the distance towards the Brooklyn border for like 15 minutes now. I wonder if that has anything to do with anything.

Martial law is a strong term.

What's that? People using strong terms like martial law, totalitarianism, and dictator in American political rhetoric when it's completely uncalled for for hyperbolic effect!

NEVER!!!

Basically the police have the neighborhood in question under lockdown and have declared it a 'frozen zone' which means they can keep the media out (somehow? i dunno how that can happen in america) and they can arrest people for any reason they damn well please.

Basically it's been a 3 day crapshow of police brutality while the media ignores it.

There always seems to be a helicopter ominously circling somewhere in or around the 5 burroughs of NYC. As for this "martial law", I haven't heard anything and where I'm located, the "local" news is from Philly or NYC.

Now that's some bull. NYPD is filled with gigantic testicles that are somehow not collapsing under their on gravity.

edit - but really, look up Brooklyn Protest on sites like Twitter and Tumblr and you'll find lots of info.

I live in Brooklyn and I've heard of no such thing and I haven't seen anything like that at all. There isn't even anything going on to warrant something like that. I don't know where you heard reports like that but it's total BS.
What happened was that a teen was shot and killed under questionable circumstances and during a rally to protest police brutality, some people used the confusion as an opportunity to rob stores. Believe me when I say Brooklyn is nowhere near being under martial law. Increased police patrols are nothing uncommon. Every once in a while when there is a scare in the subway the stations get filled with cops and bomb/drug sniffing dogs this isn't anything new or extreme. It's the price we pay for living in a gigantic metropolis.
