You need some kind of interface to plug your guitar into your computer. The Line 6 toneport is an example of a usb interface with modelling capabilities.

If you could do that successfully, do you think people would bother making interfaces?

It is physically possible to create noise doing what you suggest, but it is not a good noise and is not recommended as there have been stories of people damaging their soundcard by feeding it an inappropriate signal.

It depends on your soundcard. The interfaces are basically external soundcards.

Moved to Gear and Accessories as they will provide you with knowledgeable advice.
